Some news bits and an update for the next meeting (29 May 2007): 1. SC 34 Secretariat: JTC 1 did receive the application from the Korean NB so our vote was academic. Korea and Japan have been asked to work it out amongst themselves and if not by 30 June, then there will be a ballot on the issue. 2. Other business: We have a series of items for roll call votes (non-controversial) as follows: (I have included direct links to the materials rather than sending you to the SC 34 site. Indirection is ok but not when you are in a hurry.) 2.a FCD Ballot, ISO/IEC FCD 24754, Information technology - Document description and processing languages - Minimum requirements for specifying document rendering systems (http://www.jtc1sc34.org/repository/0814.pdf) 2.b PDAM Ballot, ISO/IEC PDAM 9541-2/Amd.2: Extension to font reference (http://www.jtc1sc34.org/repository/0844.htm) 2.c PDAM Ballot, ISO/IEC PDAM 9541-1/Amd.4: Extension to font resource architecture (http://www.jtc1sc34.org/repository/0845.htm) 2.d Default letter ballot on Resolution for JTC1/SC34 Category A Liaison with the XML Guild (http://www.jtc1sc34.org/repository/0854.htm) 2.e Request for Comments on DRAFT PDAM text - WD TR 9573-11/Amd. 1 - Information technology - SGML support facilities - Part 11: Structure descriptions and style specifications for standards document interchange Amendment 1: Authoring structure and style specification - before balloting begins (http://www.jtc1sc34.org/repository/0846.zip) Note that we don't have to vote on 2.d, the XML Guild default ballot but I think it would be a nice touch to show our support. The liasion it is replacing was the source of many fine editors for SC 34 in the past. I think the XML Guild will serve a similar function. Also, 2.e is simply imformative. I would suggest getting your reading done early. I have glanced at it and it is not lite reading. My personal suggestion is to approve 2.a - 2.c. We haven't had anyone really active in WG 2 (the font proposals) but from what I have read it looks like good work. Any comments? BTW, for our next meeting, Rob Weir's comments are the only one that came in more than 2 weeks prior to our next meeting so I commend his comments to you for review and preparation for the next meeting. I should have the call=in information and a meeting reminder out tomorrow. BTW, we have been getting public comments on DIS 29500, which you can see at: http://www.incits.org/DIS29500/DIS29500.htm. Hope everyone is having a great week!
