Lest this spin any further out control: Let me note that we now have two offers to pay for the hosting of the face to face meeting of V1. (It being rare that we even have one offer.) Yes, offers have been made but none have been accepted by V1. I don't think it is useful or will lead to good results for the committee if we allude to "home field" advantages or the composition of the committee. Yes, I am not so unaware and steeped in my programs and books as to fail to notice the by play. But, we are all adults, or at least of legal age, so even given the history that some of the members of V1 "enjoy", I think we can be civil. That is not meant to suggest that anyone should not feel free to say whatever they like, but be aware that some comments are less likely to produce useful responses than others. I did not respond to any particular post in this thread lest I make it appear that this was addressed more to one member than another. I am trying to think of a King Solomon like solution to this problem and would appreciate any suggestions or comments, particulary those without observations about other members of V1. Remember I was a trial lawyer for ten years and despite the stakes sometimes being life or death, we were still able to work with the "other" side in a civil manner. And accomodation was never viewed as a sign of weakness. Besides, anyone who thought I was at a disadvantage due to being on someone else' homefield was seriously deluded. ;-) Ask me for a war story where someone tried to deliberately run over a police office with a pickup truck sometime. In the officer's home court the defendant walked away. Of course the defendant paid more to me than he would have as a fine so the officer was somewhat molified. My client was a real piece of work who, although I represented him, was no real benefit to the community. So, having said all that, can we have some constructive suggestions? Sharing of costs perhaps? Does anyone want to offer to sponsor the refreshments and perhaps teleconferencing facilities (for remote attendance)? Hope everyone is having a great day! Patrick PS: Should it come to pass that we need more face to face meetings on such contentious proposals, I would like to start those early enough that we coudl have more than one and we could alternate between Microsoft and IBM locations. Then they could compete on the goodies that they supply during the meetings. I can't have them but I have to think about V1 as a whole. ;-) -- Patrick Durusau Patrick@Durusau.net Chair, V1 - Text Processing: Office and Publishing Systems Interface Co-Editor, ISO 13250, Topic Maps -- Reference Model Member, Text Encoding Initiative Board of Directors, 2003-2005 Topic Maps: Human, not artificial, intelligence at work!
