Medium to large trees. Leaves evergreen, linear, flat, with 2 white streaks beneath, on falling leaving short stubs on the branchlets, Male cones nearly spherical, on short stalks, borne axillary to the foliage leaves near the ends of last year's branchlets, male sporangia opening transversely, pollen simple, shedding March-April; female cones borne on the ends of the previous year's lateral branchlets, pendulous, maturing Sept.-Nov. of the 1st year; seeds winged.
