
1. T. taxifolia Arnott. FLORIDA TORREYA, STINKING-CEDAR. Trees to 18 m tall; branches appearing opposite or whorled. Leaves appearing opposite or subopposite, bright glossy green above, 2-4 cm long, 3-4 mm wide, stiff and sharp-pointed and piercing to the touch, strongly pungent or fetid when crushed. Seed ovoid, completely enclosed by a greenish or purplish, glaucous, fleshy aril, the entire "drupe-like" structure ca. 3 cm long and 2 cm in diam., maturing in fall.
