HELP

Navigation: The links just below the title will help you get around on the site. The first row of links will take you to the prepared pages of information that are part of this site. The second row of links will take you to the Google Maps pages prepared for this site. These pages might load a little more slowly than the others, so patience might be required. The links in the navigation section are set up in the approximate order in which you should explore them.

Google Maps How-to: Another feature of this site is its use of technology from Google Maps. Many of you will be familiar with this sort of map, but just in case, remember that you can change the view quite a bit from its original appearance. The controls allow for zooming and panning within the window. Use the controller (in the upper-left corner) or the wheel on the mouse to zoom in and out; click-and-drag to move the map around. In the upper-right corner, you also will find buttons that give you the option to view aerial photos instead of the back Google Maps view. Especially for looking at a region's geography, the aerial view provides a much clearer view of features such as of waterways and landforms.

Info-windows, links, etc.: On the Google Maps pages, you will see a map to the left, and to the upper-right is a brief description of what the map covers. Below this description, are some links. These links open up "Info-windows" on the map itself. (These can be opened by clicking on the markers on the map, too.) The info-windows give information on the location where you find the markers. They also contain links within those descriptions. These links will open new windows (or new tabs in Firefox), and students should follow as many of these as possible to get the most out of the site.

Note: This site uses a Web design technique called "iframes," short for in-line frames. With this technique the main page stays as it is, and changes take place in the frame under the top section.
