Obituary: Geneverette Stone Oldham


Geneverette Stone Oldham, 80, of Chapel Hill, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011, at the home of her daughter. She was born and grew up in Chatham County in North Carolina, graduating from Pittsboro High School. She attended Women’s College in Greensboro and completed her degree in nursing at MCV in Richmond, Va., where she lived for many years before returning to live in Chatham County.

Surviving are her two daughters, Genny M. McDermott of Durham, N.C., and Sherry M. Kurtz and husband, Rob, also of Durham; two grandsons, Robby and Ben Kurtz; and a very large extended family. She was the daughter of the late Floy Theodore and Florence Byrd Oldham. Ms. Oldham was predeceased by her brothers, John A. Gerald (her twin) and Floy Oldham Jr.

Ms. Oldham was a registered nurse and had retired from UNC Hospitals. She was a member of Lystra Baptist Church and also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Geneverette was an avid reader and loved tending her garden, but most of all she loved being a grandmother to her two grandsons.
