Town turns to trademarks

It’s not like the Town of Carrboro doesn’t want to be your Facebook friend. But a recently set-up Town of Carrboro page on the popular social networking platform got a thumbs down from the town’s attorney, who said the town should protect itself from people using its official logos on unofficial sites.

Brumley Forest to be protected by Triangle Land Conservancy

Photo by Sonke JohnsenLess than 20 years ago, a large forest north of Chapel Hill was under consideration to become an 800-homesite development. The property, filled with trees, ponds and wildlife, was to be known as the University Station development and would have housed hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people. On Monday, that property – now known as Brumley Forest – will instead be dedicated to the memory of George and Julia Brumley and their family as a Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC) nature preserve.

Perry Deane Young’s return

The distance from Phnom Penh to Saigon has diminished. Actually, you no longer can go from Phnom Penh to Saigon, as there no longer is a Saigon. But the last time Perry Deane Young was in the region, in 1972, the distance from Phnom Penh to what’s now called Ho Chi Minh City seemed considerable. War has that effect on distances.
