Sweet Redemption

Co-captain Kylie Tawney heads in the game-winning shot in the state soccer finals against Cuthbertson High on Saturday. The Carrboro High School women’s soccer team took the 2A NCHSAA title, defeating Cuthbertson, 2-1, in the finals. In last year’s state finals, Cuthbertson defeated Carrboro in penalty kicks, but this year the Jaguars made sure to close out the game in regulation time, with an early goal from Caroline Houser and a late header from Kylie Tawney. CARRBORO HEADS TO STATE FINALS

Carrboro attacks on goal in Saturday's game against First Flight High with a header from Breighton Magee (#15), supported by Kenza Araba (#14), Kylie Tawney (#7) and Samantha Burch (#19).  After defeating First Flight, 4-2, the Carrboro High women's soccer team trounced Swansboro on Tuesday in the 2A NCHSAA regional finals, 5-1.  The Jaguars will take on the winner of the Cuthbertson-South Iredell game, played Wednesday night after The Citizen went to press.
