Our goal is to help youth make decisions that will help them protect their health. We support postponing sex and abstaining from using drugs as the best ways to prevent infection from HIV and other sexually-transmitted diseases. However, for those who choose to be sexually active or to share needles, we provide information on how to reduce their risks of infection. The peer educators can also discuss ways to talk with partners about methods of protection. One-fourth (10,000) of the 40,000 new HIV infections in the United States each year are in young people between the ages of 13 and 19. Our ultimate goal is to help to reduce that number.
