Yang Richard enters the area, after spying from D.
YANG RICHARD
What's happening, man?
Brad, caught by surprise, whirls around with the pistol
pointed at Richard.
YANG RICHARD
Peace, brother. I don't know what you're up
to but it's no concern of mine.
YANG WOLF
Hey, maybe you can talk sense to this cat,
man.
YANG RICHARD
What's the trip?
MATRE'D
He's hijacked the wedding, is what it amounts to.
WAITPERSON
No discussion. You get over there with the
others.
YANG RICHARD
I'm not your enemy.
WAITPERSON
Maybe not, maybe so.
YANG WOLF
He thinks he's a bad cat but he's really--
WAITPERSON
Shut up!
YANG RICHARD
Hey, let's all cool it, life's too damn short
to be reaching for the sedatives all the time,
right? I'm just curious about what the hassle
is, is all. Maybe we can resolve it.
WAITPERSON
The resolving is when I split.
Until then, we wait.
YANG RICHARD
What's the deal?
MATRE'D
He has drugs on him, is the deal. He took
them from him, who found them in that
container over there. There's also other
drugs that I gave him earlier, that I found in
the kitchen.
WAITPERSON
This must be the same stash. Not
that it makes any difference.
MATRE'D
It certainly doesn't.
WAITPERSON
Look, I'm doing what I got to do. I don't
like it this way any more than you do, but you
didn't give me any damn choice.
YANG RICHARD
Did we miss a compromise here? Maybe we can
reach a new one.
WAITPERSON
Look, I said no discussion.
YANG RICHARD
I'm sorry, it's my nature, being an attorney
-- I like to find solutions.
WAITPERSON
I'm not asking you again.
YANG RICHARD
Then I guess you're just going to have to blow
my brains out because I plan to keep talking.
Now obviously what we have here is some kind
of misunderstanding, about some drug deal I
take it. He took your dope, is that it?
YANG WOLF
Man, I found it in the box, like the captain
said. Jack put it there.
MATRE'D
Brad said Jack took the drugs -- maybe it is
the same stuff.
YANG RICHARD
Then it belongs to Jack?
WAITPERSON
To me now.
YANG RICHARD
And what are you going to do, blow your mind
for a few hours? Or sell it?
WAITPERSON
It's no business of yours.
MATRE'D (bluffing)
Anyway, the police will be waiting outside. He's
not going anywhere.
WAITPERSON
I don't believe that.
MATRE'D
You will soon enough.
YANG RICHARD
Sounds like you got yourself a problem.
WAITPERSON
Not my problem.
YANG WOLF
Those cops, man--
WAITPERSON
I told you to shut up!
YANG RICHARD
You need a way to get the dope out of here
without being suspected -- that sound like the
picture to you?
WAITPERSON
I don't need more than to be in control --
which is exactly what I am.
YANG RICHARD
Not if the police are waiting outside . . .
WAITPERSON
He's bluffing.
MATRE'D
You know me, Brad -- hell, I called the police
even before I handed you the drugs.
WAITPERSON
You didn't tell me that then.
MATRE'D
It was none of your business.
YANG WOLF
I know he called the cops, man.
YANG RICHARD
I think you've got a problem.
WAITPERSON
So you want in the deal or what? You're sure
taking interest in all this.
YANG RICHARD
I may be able to help you.
MATRE'D
You're a dealer, too?
YANG RICHARD (ignoring this)
I'd ask fifty-fifty.
WAITPERSON
How do I know I can trust you?
YANG RICHARD
Because you got no alternative.
WAITPERSON
I didn't even want in on it any more, I told
Jack that.
YANG RICHARD
Jack's dope, so he's the main man, right?
WAITPERSON
Maybe.
YANG RICHARD
I mean, it makes no difference -- except that
if it's his dope, where is he right now?
MATRE'D
He's at the bar.
YANG RICHARD
He's going to be pissed if he comes
this way.
WAITPERSON
We'll be done here soon enough.
YANG RICHARD
I have to admit it, you're a real gambler. If
I was you, with the cops outside and Jack
right over there, I'd be looking for all the
help I can get.
Dwallah enters, in her mumbling mode.
