From the Desk of The Executive Director!

Dear Fellow Region III CEA Members,

I wanted to give you an update on some of the happenings in Region III. The International CEA Conference this past July in Anaheim, CA was a huge success. The conference was well attended and the speakers, workshops, and conference events offered a diverse and quality conference experience for all who attended. Congratulations to the conference planning committee and the conference co-chairs Mike Lawson and Randall Wright for a job well done!

Region III will be holding elections in the Spring of 2007 for the officer’s positions of Director, Assistant Director, Secretary and Treasurer. These officers will all serve two year terms and need to be able to attend the Region III conference and the International CEA conference as a part of the job responsibilities. We have information posted on the website and a call for nominations will be mailed to all CEA Region III members after the first of the year. If anyone has questions or would like additional information about the election process or the job duties for each officer please contact me.

It looks like Region III will be joining Region IV at their conference in April 2007 for our regional conference and teacher of the year selection pr 193 ocess. The specific dates have not been set yet, but the conference is going to be held in Sioux Falls, SD. As soon as the dates are announced we will post them on the website. Thank you to our friends in Region IV for inviting us to join them this year.

Denise Justice, the Vice President of CEA International and the Chair of fef the Membership Committee for the CEA Board of Directors, and I have been working with two states in Region III to try to increase their membership and get their chapters back active again. We recently made trips to Kentucky and Indiana to help in this effort. In Kentucky we attended the Career and Technical Education Conference and provided an information booth on CEA during the conference. We also had three members from Kentucky attend the CEA-Ohio Conference in September and are working on partnering with them more formally for our conference next year. During the first week in October we attended the Indiana Correctional Association Conference in Muncie and provided a workshop on utilizing technology to enhance reentry, but also talked about CEA membership and its benefits. If you have questions or would be interested in learning more about ways we might be able to help your state chapter please let me know.

Region III remains the largest, and in my opinion the best, region in CEA and we want to work to maintain that status and improve wherever possible. Thank you for this opportunity to serve you as the Director of Region III and I look forward to continuing this working relationship in the future.

Sincerely,
David S. Webb, Director
CEA Region III
