The Ins and Outs of Eating

Jumping Java!
-------------
As if all regular caffeine and a sugar rush wasn't enough to get you going
in the mornings, Rosemary's has a new espresso machine. They claim that it's
a real screamer. No way you will arrive at work half-asleep now!

Birthdays all around.
---------------------
Time flies. It seems like only yesterday when The Channel met with the
owners of two new businesses in town: Fatoum and Nasser of Prego's
Pizzeria and Chuck and Pam of the "new" Baltic, in order to be able to report
on it for our new business -- Well now all three business ventures are a year
older (and probably a lot wiser).
Prego's continues to expand its menu with daily specials. They also have
plans for an espresso machine in the works. Now you can stay up late and
write lots of articles for The Channel.
In our March/April issue we wrote about the reenactment of an old
photograph that was to take place at the Pt. Richmond Stroll. Now copies of
both the old and the new photograph are hanging in Prego. Drop in and see
them.
Fatoum Al-Wareeth and Nasser Hallum want to express their thanks and
appreciation to their customers and the community for its support.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game
----------------------------
The Baltic is going strong with lots of good food and good music. They won
their baseball game against their archrivals at the Hotel Mac. There is talk of
a rematch game between these two venerable dining establishments. Or are
their players on strike, too? Maybe we could get a city-wide "Gourmet"
Softball League going? The Channel staff is not so athletically inclined so we
will wait for a pool tournament or a Trivial Pursuit contest.

Fruits of Fall
--------------
Harvest time is almost over in rural Contra Costa County but there is still
some fresh farm produce available around Brentwood. Hurry, you might get to
pick some late ripening apples, corn, grapes, beans, peas, black-eyed peas,
nectarines, okra, pears, peaches, tomatoes, etc. Almonds and walnuts are both
available through the end of December. Other foods, like eggs and dried fruit,
are available year-round. For a map to participating growers write Harvest Time
in Brentwood, P.O. Box 0 Brentwood, CA 94513

Wine -- in Richmond?
--------------------
Join the Richmond Museum Association in celebrating their 40th anniversary
with a Cheese & Wine tasting. Appropriately, the event is being held at
Winehaven. Donations have been made by the Sonoma Cheese Factory and Mondavi
Vineyards. There hasn't been wine poured at this historic winery, once the
largest in the world, since prohibition. Non Alcoholic beverages and a no-host
bar will also be available.
The price is $17.50 per person for Richmond Museum Association
members. Non-members pay $20.00 per person or they can take advantage
of a special offer and pay $25.00 per person for admission and membership.
Proceeds will benefit the Richmond Museum of History. The museum is
still looking for more donations of food and wine. This is a great opportunity
for local merchants to take part in a historic occasion, so if you are
interested in helping supply samples of your food and wines for this event
call the Richmond Museum at (510) 235-7387. (Besides, you might just get a
mention in this column next issue!)

No Small Fry
------------
In case you missed the Shark Feed at the Pt. San Pablo Sportsman Club in
July (that's when the people are in a feeding frenzy over sharks, not vice
versa), you might try their Fish Fry on September 24. Guest slips are
available if you have a boat and don't feel like navigating the bumpy road out
there. For more information, (510) 620-9593 or 236-7371.
