The American Air Museum in Britain reports that the 418th Signal Conpany was in the VIIIth Fighter Command.

The  Unit Citation and Campaign Participation Register (UCCPR), July, 1961 states the 418th has Rhineland Campaign Participation Credit.

The Headquarters of the VIIIth Fighter Command and the 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Group were based in Charleroi Airfield (A-87), Belgium, beginning about 15 January 15, 1945. The 418th may have been one of the Signal Corps units assigned to the VIIIth in Belgium.

Raymond H. Pierce's service record states he also has Air Offensive Europe Campaign Participation Credit. He served as a radio operator on aircraft over Nazi occupied Europe. (Source: Raymond H. Pierce's granddaughter Alicia Donathan).

That they are wearing campaign ribbons and other awards suggest this photo is from the summer of 1945 as they are preparing to return to the United States.

While not clear, their left collar tabs are probably the Signal Corps insignia.
