![]() [take action!] - [letter] - [press release] - [resolution] - [survey] - [commercialism walkthrough] Sample Letter to the Editor To the editor: Regarding the article "Pitching to pupils" (San Francisco Examiner, Jan. 18, 1998), what is most disturbing about the possible agreement between Pepsi and Berkeley High School is that it would allow a fundamental invasion by corporate culture and commercialism into the most sacred "public space" in these adoclescents' lives: school. Will we as a society stand by idly while our educational institutions are infiltrated by corporations whose primary interest is to further the sales of their products? How much are the students really going to benefit from such a deal? That money isn't going toward textbooks or computers - it's going toward a couple of scoreboards with giant Pepsi logos. Trade-offs such as these are not in the best interests of our nation, our communities or our schools, and certainly not our children. Sincerely, |
