Planetary Diversions John Nance Becket (progresses right) A1 Ladies chain on the right diagonal Promenade A2 Star Right (with the next couple) Orbit B1 Neighbor gypsy and swing B2 Men pull by with left hands Partner Swing The orbit figure is as follows: Men allemande left 1-1/2 while the ladies cross to the other side by walking clock- wise around the men. Spacing will be important so that the ladies don't have to go so far to loop around the men (and so there is room for the ladies to pass between the allemanding men). Suggest to the dancers that a courtesy turn at the end of the diagonal chain will work better than a twirl. At the ends, if you are with your partner, stand on the right, ready for the ladies to chain on the right diagonal. Promenade across with that person, and stand on the left, ready to Orbit. I tried calling this 8/6/07 in a small dance in Charlotte with no beginners and could not get the dance to work. The dance as written is ok, but too confusing for the dancers. Moving from one set to another in the orbit is confusing, then having the lady behind the gent makes it even more so. And as Dean says, the end effects are fierce. I would recommend calling Planetary Convergences (from this site) instead.
