At the start of the dance, couples are given a designation of "orange" or "purple". The couples in the right-most line are "orange", and then the next line "purple", and the next line "orange", continuing alternating.
Couples keep their color designation even as the progress between lines. However, when the reach the edge of the lines (on any of the four sides of the grid contra), they change color designations. While lines will swap colors, all people in a line should have the same color designation.


As for the progression, when progressing across the hall, you pass two neighbors, but I count it as a single progression across because it's already hard enough to notate.
