A quick forward who played power forward at Syracuse, he'd play the 3 most likely in the pro's. Last summer he was knocked because he didn't have much of a outside shot so he worked on that in the offseason and improved drastically. He made 34 of 84 three pointers this year after making only about 3 in his first 3 years. Got great quickness, plays a bit smaller than his height at times, but is also a good rebounder. Good passer (as evidenced by that touchdown pass to Jason Cippola in the memorable Georgia NCAA game) and clutch shot maker (as evidenced by the game winning three pointer in that same game). |

A player whose stock was most helped by a strong showing in the NCAA
tournament. Wallace made the much publicized decision to return to Syracuse
for his senior season and really imrpoved his game. He can now hit the
long-range jump shot and create his own shot off the dribble. Also on the
plus side, Wallace is a strong rebounder who likes to mix it up underneath
the basket. His character and leadership are also worth a mention.
On the negative side, Wallace doesn't really appear to fit a
position in the NBA. He's a tweener -- not tall enough to play the PF spot
and not quick enough to guard small forwards in the NBA. From that
standpoint, Wallace reminds me a lot of Ed O'Bannon from last year's draft
and might find his transition to the NBA to be a rocky one. If Wallace is
going to move to the 3-spot, he must also improve his ball-handling and passing.
My personal feeling is that Wallace might be better served trying to
bulk up and make it as a smaller power forward in the NBA. He might be able
to take NBA power forwards away from the basket and use his finesse game.
But as it stands, he simply isn't quick enough to guards NBA small forwards.

Antoine can handle the ball well for a small forward. But too small for the power forward spot. Has range from the college 3pt. line. Can and will pass the ball. In his sophmore season was finally becoming the player Pitino thought he would be. Plays defense well. Strenghts - Does everything well Weakness - Doesn't excel in anything |
| More POOP(Scout: Jazzy J) |
The 2nd best player on Kentucky last season, Antoine Walker started
to blossom into a superstar his sophomore season. A big-time
recruit out of Chicago, Antoine Walker was annointed the next
Jamal Mashburn his freshman season, even wearing Mashburn's #24
uniform number. Who could you blame for the comparisons -- Walker
had the all-around game, the offensive explosiveness, the ability to
play inside and outside. His freshman year saw him play mostly
a supporting role, until the SEC tournament where he really shone
and was named Tournament MVP. But last season he really started to
live up to the expectations that were set upon him.
As stated previously, Antoine Walker (like several Kentucky players)
has a well-diversified game with multiple skills, especially
offensively. Walker can flat out score, and gets his points from
a variety of ways. He is a dangerous mid-range shooter, and can
also take the ball to the hole very well, and can finish in a variety
of ways (as shown by his drive past Erik Dampier this season, while
switching to his left hand for the layup to avoid the shot block).
While not a big-time leaper, Walker is an excellent finisher. Walker
has a tremendous inside game and takes the ball to the basket very
strong, with no regard to who his defender is. While this is quite
effective most of the time, sometimes it's as if he thinks he's
playing back in high school, and can sometimes can get him in
trouble against a taller player. If there's one kink in the armor
of Walker's offensive game though, it's his outside shooting. After
a freshman season in which he showed some potential from deep, his
sophomore season was very forgettable from 3-pt land. He never
showed the range nor consistency all season. His form even looked
funny, often times it looks like a flat, shotput-like missle hurled
towards the basket. It's certainly something that Walker will need
to work on for the pros.
To complement his scoring, Antoine Walker is also a nice passer and
ball-handler. He finished 2nd on the team in assists behind point
guard Anthony Epps, and often times had some very special-looking
passes to teamates for easy hoops. Like teammate Walter McCarty,
Walker is an excellent interior passer. He also has a tremendous
handle, and often after getting the defensive rebound, would take
the ball up the court himself and set up a teammate for the score.
Defensively, Walker can be a terror when motivated. He often was
the lead man in Kentucky's press, as he guarded the man out of
bounds. He has quick hands, which often leads to steals (where he
finished tied for 2nd on the team) and instant fast breaks. Walker
also has some pretty nice rebounding skills, and led the team in
that department last season. He is capable of putting up double
doubles at times.
On a negative note however, Walker does seem to be more of a "me
first" type of player. His early declaration for the NBA draft
somewhat reflected that (along with his family situation). While he
did fit into Pitino's team concept at UK, sometimes it did seem like
Walker would sulk if things weren't working out for him, much like
how former UK player Rodrick Rhodes would do. Coming out of
HS, Walker was known as a notorious trash talker, and while he never
really showed that at UK, he does have a reputation. This baggage
really is rather minor, however, as the fact he did fit into the
team concept at UK and didn't hinder at all (and in fact, was a major
player) in Kentucky's national championship run.
While Walker played a lot of PF (and sometimes C) at Kentucky --
mostly due to necessity -- his position is firmly at SF for the NBA.
Sizewise and game-wise, it's a perfect fit. Teams will be able to
utilize his low-post game in their schemes to their advantage. He
may see some time at PF in an emergency. If he improves his outside
shot enough, Walker may very well end up seeing a lot of time at
SG, considering his ball-handling skills.
The fact that Antoine Walker left early for the draft during his
Kentucky career didn't surprise UK fans -- the fact he did it after
his sophomore year did. But considering the fact that he's projected
as a lottery pick, who can blame him. Antoine Walker will likely
be the 2nd SF taken in the draft, after John Wallace.

| POOP (Scout: Douglas Glass) |
Predicted draft spot: 9-15 (camps could help or hurt). Here's the deal: Minor was a role player on Billy Tubbs' teams for his first two years. Then Kelvin Sampson came in and saw his potential and more or less designed the team around him in his junior year. Minor flourished, as he was in the top so many in the Big 8 for scoring, rebounding, FT shooting (and maybe 3pters and steals). He earned Big 8 POY, beating out Big Country. His senior year was a bit of a letdown. He still averaged about 20ppg and probably 8 rpg (I don't have the stats), but his shooting was way off, dropping down to about 43% (lower from outside). He came into the year with a lot of expectations, from the media, the fans, and you could tell when he played, himself. He started the year off in a shooting slump, scoring points, but taking too many shots and not winning big games. People react differently to slumps, but it looked like he got frustrated, sometimes blaming officials and being visibly angry with himself or his teammates. He was supposed to be The Man and something wasn't working. But after about 6 games into the Big 8 season (I think they opened up 1-5), he started playing like the 1st team/POY he was supposed to be as opposed to the 2nd team/Honorable mention level he had earlier in the year. It looked like Minor was back in force as his team rallied to a third place finish in the Big 8 (9-7 I believe) and on to the NCAA tournament. His game had returned and he played a little more relaxed. I am not sure which came first, his game or not being frustrated, but whatever it was, it worked. Based on the last half of the Big 8 season, he put himself back into contention for Big 8 POY, losing to Jacque Vaughn. Actually, it was three treys towards the end of the home game against Kansas that put him in serious contention. Anyway, he was 1st team all Big 8 and made a few All America 3rd teams. His game: Shooting - has NBA 3pt range (maybe not the old line, but definitely this one). He is never afraid to take a shot, and takes some bad ones (but not nearly as bad as half the ACC/Big East guards who can be five feet out of the arc, see a pro scout, TV camera, cute girl, etc. and think "now is the perfect time to throw up a brick"). And he's not a one dimensional shooter either. He can hit a five-foot jumper, a 10, 15, or 20 foot jumper (some players can shoot threes, but not twos). As I've said, he was in a slump, but it seemed to end as the year progressed. And he shoots around 80%+ from the foul line. And when he gets the ball, he can release as quickly as John Starks. Moves - no one really calls him a "slasher", but perhaps they should take another look. He isn't the type to take the ball from the three point line and drive to the hoop, but when he has a man isolated about 12 feet out, he will take him off the dribble, do a variety of spin moves and get some sort of scooping layup. Some think he's just a shooter, but his game is complete for his position. He does what SF's are supposed to do: be able to shoot, play inside a bit, and create his shots. To be quite honest, if he didn't have the long range, he could still be called a "scorer" based on his ability to get to the basket and finish (not necessarily dunks, but get the ball in). I imagine he has somewhat of a post game, but he'd rather go to the basket than take a fadeaway. I don't see him posting up anyone bigger, but his range should allow his team to go big and create a mismatch to let him play inside a bit. Ball handling/passing - He's not a point forward. You don't want him as a ball handler, but if the PG is trapped and passes to him in the back court, don't cringe. He isn't the type to take the ball from center circle to the hole, but if he gets the ball near the arc, he can shake and bake to open up a shot. If he gets the ball within 15 feet, he is more than capapble of putting it on the floor, weaving through traffic and scoring which is how he gets most of his points. He's kind of the opposite of Jordan in the sense that MJ's bread and butter is his jump shot (it always has been), but most of his press comes from his dunks and drives. Minor is more of an inside guy who has a reputation for being primarily a shooter. In the NBA, he might have to alter his game a big and revert to more of a shooter, because he can always shoot. But he can take a man off the dribble as well as the next guy. His passing skills are fine. Nothing fancy, he may try to force something, but he will not likely have to run an offense, so most of his passing will be out of a double team to an open teammate, rather than having to find the open guy. Defense - he can play defense. Were not talking Grant Hill or Stacey Augmon, but he's not Bob Sura. He has averaged over 8 rebounds per game from the SF spot for two years. His team never had a great center or PF, but the Big 8 has had a lot of trees over the past two years and he's benn able to get his rebounds. He wouldn't be a designated stopper, but he's not a liability. Strengh/athleticism - His strength ismore than adequate for his position. He's a great athlete, quick, mobile, agile. He can jump and dunk just fine although he's not Pippen or Hill. But if he goes up for a dunk more than five feet away, don't worry. Unlike some players, he'll have no trouble slamming it home. Quickness - faster than you think. People look at his skin and compare him to Bird since that is the only white forward who can shoot that they can think of. But truthfully, he's much quicker than Bird ever was. As with his defense, he's no Grant Hill, but he's not Danny Ferry. Intangibles - His junior year, he was a leader. His senior year, he tried to do too much and got frustrated. I don't see him being drafted and put into a position where he must lead the team, so he might have to revert to more of a role player. I think he can do that just fine as long as he's given a chance. Since Chuck Daly is no longer in the league and Dallas will likely be firing Motta, I don't know if there is a coach left who has an anti-rookie disposition, so if he's good enough, he should play. He is cocky enough to earn respect from his teammates. Notice how I said cocky, not arrogant. Just remember the ESPN footage of Rasheed Wallace standing on the sidelines wearing a suit with a piece of paper taped to his back saying, "Kick me, I'm a rookie" if you want to see the effects of cockiness vs. arrogance. Comparisons - NOT BIRD!. There, I've said it. Ryan Minor is not Larry Bird. Both are white, both can shoot. One can throw no look passes, the other can run a 100 yard dash in reasonable time. Other than shooting, their games are completely different. I've thought all year about who to compare him to and had tough time. Like everyone, I tried to find a white guy to compare him to. No luck. There wasn't one. He's faster than nearly every white guy in the league. Barry is a better ball handler and a better leaper and passer (with half the inside game). And other than Chris Mullin (the one white guy you can compare to Bird), there aren't that many white SFs. And of the black SFs, they are either slashers (Pippen, Hill) or tall guys (Clifford Robinson, Schrempf), muscle boys (Mase), or scrappers (Derrick McKey). I think Sean Elliot is the best comparison. Solid overall game with an outside shot (Elliot is better) and not afraid to take it inside (Minor is more of a banger) with some decent moves. Too much of an athlete to be called a "shooter", but not enough of a slasher to be called that. The one thing that I've tried to stress is that calling Minor a shooter and ignoring his inside game would be like calling the 1996 Drexler a shooting guard and forgetting about his rebounding, post game, and passing that makes Clyde more of a SF (who can lead a break, slash and drive and shoot the three and just about everything else). Predictions - He is definately a first rounder. Had he played this year like he did his junior, he would have been a lottery. Now it is tough to say. I doubt he'll go top 8, but he won't slip past 17. He could start, depending on who drafts him. I'd give him about a 30% chance of starting, with about a 70% chance of getting at least 15 mpg. My gut feeling is that he will be this year's Michael Finley, someone who was hyped his junior year and during the preseason of his senior, then had a letdown and got drafted late and got his touch back in the pros and had teams like New Jersey and Cleveland kicking themselves. |

General Info:
One of the top scorers in the Pacific 10 Conference.
Comments:
Needs to increase shooting range.
Summary:
Sanford would be good investment for a team
selecting in the second round, since he'll
probably return to college for more seasoning.

Strengths: Smooth athletic player who can step out and shoot the jumper. Has the ability to play SF and can at times be a decent defender for a young player. Weaknesses: May be the worst of all the college kids coming out early in terms of deciding to come out this year, not ready. Has to get stronger and develop his game, much of his stats come from playing out of control outside the framework of the team. As the season wore on and UW became a better team, he seemed to be struggling with the team concept. Overly exciteable kid, loses track of the game. Comments: Lose the Nike swoosh in your hair and go back to college Mark. Has a chance but is behind the curve with these other kids, played against inferior competition in highschool in San Diego and is still catching up. Needs to grow up as a player. |

A JuCo standout who came to transferred to Georgetown two years ago, Jerome Williams is hands-down, the best rebounder in the draft... bar none. At 6'9" the man has a vertical leap which borders on illegal, and has an uncanny ability for the ball, especially on the offensive glass. First weaknesses. He doesn't have much of a shot to speak of beyond the layup and short range jumper. Not much of a post player, his points came mainly off garbage from the boards, and fast breaks. On the upside however, besides his tremendous rebounding skills is also his excellent ball-handliing ability for a big man. He often started and finished the fast break on a breakneck speed Hoyas team last year, and also had the nack for the steal per game kind of role. His defense is decent, though maybe a little suspect. Will be fine on defense and coming up the court, but must work EXTREMELY HARD on his shooting if he is to survive as more than a role player in the NBA. |
| More POOP(Scout: Craig Simpson) |
Williams was named the MVP of the Nike Desert Classic averaging 13.7 points and 8 rebounds a game. He still did not totally convice scouts that he is an NBA small forward however he did help himself tremendously. |
| More POOP(Scout: Dan McQuillen) |
An excellent (at times Rodman-like) rebounder with tremendous timing and great leaping ability, he also has the ball handling skill to play in the backcourt. Had 11 double-doubles his senior season, bringing his career total to 24. Weakness - outside shot and oddly enough, inside layups (remember the Big East conference tournament final?). Junior College Was the Junior College MVP for the state of Maryland, averaging 26 points, and 17 rebounds as a senior. |
| POOP(Scout: Donny Kim) |
a player who is a great rebounder and a great ballhander. Can take the rebound and move past traffic for instant fast breaks. Didn't take more than probably 10 15ft+ jumpshots in his 2 year career at G'town, so he probably won't be able to play SF in the pros. He is a bit undersized for a PF but he had the reputation as being the toughest and most physical player in the big east two years ago. Absolutely no post moves. Gets his points off of offensive boards and transition. |

| POOP (Scout: Phil Bedard ) |
A tall, lanky player with superior quickness and deep range on his
jumper. On a team filled with stars at Kentucky, McCarty's contribution was
oftern overlooked. He came to Kentucky as a talented prep star but was
forced to sit out his freshman season because he was academically
ineligible. McCarthy is an excellent athlete and a terrific defender who
effectively guarded Marcus Camby in UK's matchup with UMass in the Final
Four. McCarthy's size and quickness was the catalyst that made Kentucky's
full-court press so lethal. McCarthy also showed that he can hit consistenly
from behind the three-point line and run the court and finish effectively.
Both aspects of his game will suit him well in the NBA.
McCarthy's passing and ball-handling are questionable. Since he was
never featured in Kentucky's offense, he never proved he had the skills to
create shots for his teammates. McCarthy's lithe frame (he's listed at
230lbs but is probably around 215lbs) means that he will have to hit the
weights. Also, McCarthy has yet to show that he can create his own offense
or score with his back to the basket.
McCarthy may project out to be a Robert Horry type player in the NBA.

| More POOP(Scout: Jazzy J) |
While he wasn't quite Jamal Mashburn junior, Walter McCarty ended up
carving out a pretty nice career at Kentucky. After sitting out his
freshman year due to Prop 48 and playing a supportive role his
sophomore year, McCarty started showing his junior and senior years
the talent many scouts drooled over when he left HS in Indiana.
McCarty is a tremendous athlete, with explosive leaping ability.
Many times Kentucky fans were pulled out of their seats (something
which doesn't happen unless something spectacular happens, for the
most part) when McCarty would fly in after a missed shot to jam it
home. In a game versus Alabama, McCarty once drove down the lane
and threw down a reverse dunk over the likes of Antonio McDyess and
Jason Caffey (who later were 1st round NBA picks). Combine that
with a nice all-around game, and you have a pretty nice package of
a player.
Offensively, McCarty has a myriad of skills. What probably stands
out the most is his ability to shoot from the outside. At 6'10",
it almost seems unfair how well McCarty can stroke the college 3-pt
field goal. McCarty is a very good standstill outside shooter and
will simply bury the open 3 if you leave him open. His favorite
shots seem to be right at the top of the key, and from the sides
(where he hit the shot that put Kentucky up for good in their big
comeback in the LSU game 3 years back). This range probably could
extend out to the NBA 3-pt line. Inside, McCarty has a decent game,
with a fair array of moves and a soft jump hook. However, McCarty
does seem a bit tentative in shooting the ball at times, and
never really seemed to be all that assertive in his offensive game.
His game off the dribble could use some work and he will likely need
to have shots created for him.
McCarty is a decent ball handler (especially for his size) and
is a tremendous interior passer, and will find the open
man. Defensively, he is a pretty good shot-blocker, mostly due to
his long arms and leaping ability. He also is pretty quick on his
defender, getting a fair share of steals. Before Walker took over
the spot this season, McCarty used to be the point man on UK's press,
where he'd guard the man taking the ball out of bounds. There's one
thing however, McCarty could definitely use some weight and muscle on
his frame. For years Pitino has been trying to get McCarty to put
some meat on his bones -- in fact at one time, he even threatened to
keep him out of the starting lineup until he reached a particular
weight. The biggest problem for him with this will probably be on
defense, although his athletic skills may make up for it somewhat.
It will also affect him on his rebounding as he'll easily get pushed
out of the paint on rebounds. With this in mind, he often fouls as
a result, so he does have some problems with foul trouble. With all
these factors, McCarty likely projects to be a SF on the next level.
In fact, good comparisons could probably be drawn between him and
Robert Horry, who has many of the same type of skills.
There are mixed opinions regarding Walter McCarty. Some feel that
he is a budding superstar waiting to happen, and was wasn't given
the minutes or time to really shine under Rick Pitino's system.
Others feel that the Pitino system actually hid some of McCarty's
weaknesses. Nevertheless, most all seem to feel that he is a
1st round draft choice. McCarty could very well be a low lottery
pick (much like Horry was). While he is not going to be a top notch
superstar, he can be a 2nd-tier type of player that Horry is. He comes
from a winner, which certainly can't hurt. To boot, he's a great
singer, so he could certainly help out with the national anthem once
in a while.

Matt Bullard revisited. a big J shooter, with quick release and good shooting range, but not a player who creates his own shots: hes not a driver or a post player, and quick defender can really bother him. A tweener defensivelly: has no chance guarding small forwards on the perimeter, and lacks physical strength to defend post players... not a good rebounder... doesnt block shots... A smart player, with sound fundamentalls (he did, after all, played for bobby knight), can found a nitch as a role player, who can help spread the defense for the team's big men or penetratiors... |
| MORE POOP(Scout: Owen P O'Malley) |
General Info:
Leading scorer in the Big 10 this season. Selected
third team All-American.
Comments:
Good offensive player. Not only is he a good shooter,
but he's very good at faking out defenders.
Summary:
Evans has good size for a SF. There are concerns about
his footspeed, quickness, and previous injuries.

General Info:
Brother of Willie Anderson.
Comments:
Had some good games in the post-season. He's best-
suited in the open court slashing to the basket.
Summary:
An indication of the depth of this draft is that
Anderson should be available mid-late second round.

General Info:
Settles surprised a lot of people when he declared
for the draft.
Comments:
Settles will have to make the adjustment to SF in the
pros. Like Evans, there are concerns about his foot-
speed, quickness, and previous injuries.
Summary:
He'll probably be selected in the second round.
