Scouting Report: Uncle Vasya [anon2e18@nyx.net]
Background: A native of Belarus, Alexander Koul showed a lot of promise in his first two seasons at George Washington; however, he has not developed into a top center prospect despite staying all 4 years in school.

Strengths: Koul has excellent size and strength to play center in the NBA (7-0, 280.) The weight is muscle; there are no "fat" issues like with Bryant Reeves, e.g. He also has a good touch on his low post moves, and is able to shoot hooks with both hands. Runs the court decently. His overall athletic ability is decent for his size. Pretty intelligent young man.

Weaknesses: "Sasha" is not a very instinctive player; he's quite mechanical both offensively and defensively, and no phase of his game is at the NBA starter level -- he is not a shotblocker, does not score enough, does not rebound enough, etc. He's not very quick to the ball and quick defensive help really disrupts his back-to-the-basket game. Doesn't really possess a face-up jumper. His willingness to mix it up physically is somewhat negated by his fear of getting into foul trouble. He has been foul-prone all his career.

Projection: Because he possesses a huge, non-fat body, he will be drafted -- most likely in the 2nd round (unless he goes to the Chicago camp and does well, or catched someone's eye in the workouts.) If Paul Grant, who had somewhat similar stats, can go in the early 20s, Koul could conceivably go early in the 2nd round.

I see his future in the league as a banger-type backup who'll always be on someone's roster because of size.

Scouting Report: JazzyJ [JazzyJDT@aol.com]
After being projected a lottery pick as early as after his sophomore year, Koul's stock has dropped mightily now that his senior year is over. He basically just didn't seem like he improved all that much over his 4 years in college. He's still very big and has a nice touch around the basket. But, he's still slow, foul prone, and seems to lack polish. If anything, he seems to have regressed since the days when he was considered a promising prospect. Size and potential continues to make him intriguing to some degree, but at this point doesn't look any better than a 2nd round pick to a team looking for a backup center to bang the boards (something at which he needs to improve at for a 7 footer) and rough up an opponent with some hard fouls.
