Scouting Report: GT Hoyas44 [GTHoyas44@aol.com]
Felipe Lopez came into the NCAA with an incredible amount of hype.
Lopez appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated even before
starting his freshman year. However he failed to reach the level
which most though he would easily achieve as an All-American. Lopez
is a very good finisher with a lot of acrobatic moves. He has good
post-up play, and can muscle his way into the lane. He is a good
penetrator and can take anyone off the dribble. However, he has
many weaknesses such as his shooting range. Lopez doesn't have the
great 3 point ability that you would expect from a shooting guard,
but has been developing and improving on it. His ball controll is
average, but can get the job done. He is a very good slasher and
makes hard cuts to the basket at any opertunity. One of the drawbacks
he faced in college was the absence of a good point guard who could
deliver the ball to him. Lopez is probably one of the most athletic
players in NCAA, thus winning the Sprite Slama Jama contest over Rubin
Patterson. If Lopez can improve his range and passing ability he could
be one of the steals of the draft. He would best fit into a team such
as Portland.
