This live concert performance by K. Yesudass is from a cassette on his own Tharangini label, entitled "Classical Music Live Programme vol. 13 A." It was recorded January 10, 1989 in the Senate Hall of Trivandrum, Kerala State. It has been dropped from the Tharangini catalog.
Dr. K. J. Yesudass is far more widely known as a pop crooner of the Malayalam film industry. He may be the single most popular singer of southern India. Born a Christian, Yesudass has participated in many Hindu ceremonies, including the annual Tyagaraja Aradhana, a celebration of the 19th century composer Tyagaraja. His Karnatak performances are up to the highest musical standards, as these recordings demonstrate.
Dr. Yesudass also has a lively web site of his own.
Fans of Karnatak (also spelled Carnatic) music may enjoy the Carnatic Music pages, which include translations of the songs here.
Accompanying Yesudass are E.K. Thyagarajan on violin, Tanjore Upendran on mridangam and T. Radhakrishnan on Ghatam.
