FAQ/Guidelines for Submission:
Q: Why should I submit something?
A: Most importantly, we think Culture serves as an excellent forum for bringing together the community of cultural sociologists. Additionally, many of the articles we publish serve as an open airing of an idea that will culminate in a larger research project. You may want to showcase your research program or preview upcoming events of interest to other culturalists and Culture is an excellent forum for doing so.
Q: What kinds of things are you looking for in a submission?
A: We put few parameters on what is acceptable for submission. It could be a theoretical argument, a shorter version of a working paper, a contribution to a prominent and on-going debate in the field, a report on the goings-on of cultural programs and events, etc.
Q: How long should my submission be?
A: The length varies by type of submission. Ideally, an article will be no more than 1500 words. Updates and reports should be much shorter.
Q: How formal should my submission be?
A: Not that formal! Somewhere between a conversational style and an article you would submit to a peer-reviewed journal.
Q: Do I need to include detailed references and footnotes?
A: No. We do not publish detailed references or footnotes. Any references and footnotes that you do include will only be published in the online edition.
Q: How do you go about selecting items for publication?
A: We look for items that we think will be of interest to a wide audience of culturalists. We look for reports, ideas, and debates that will make the newsletter a lively venue. Occasionally we organize the newsletter thematically and other times we include a range of topical items.
Q: If my submission is accepted, when can I expect it to be published?
A: Space is, of course, a deciding factor. We try to keep the newsletter to no more than 12 pages. If your piece cannot be fit into the forthcoming newsletter it should appear in a subsequent installment.
Q: Is there a way for readers to generate dialogue regarding my submission?
A: Yes! The online edition at http://www.ibiblio.org/culture/newsletter allows all users to comment on published items. We hope that this will be a venue for both fun and meaningful conversation.
