3-D Digital Library
to be Developed by ILS
By Brigida Mack
The School of Information and Library Science will soon have something
else to be proud of -- a new 3-D library system
The half-million dollar digital library will allow users to browse
the rare book collection without actually touching the books. Funded
by the Das Foundation of New York, ILS plans to digitize 30-50 books
for the new library.
Project Director Paul Jones says the library has definite hands-on
appeal. "We want to first digitize the books and then allow people
to look at them in 3-D the way one would touch or feel an object."
The library plans to be up and running at ibiblio.org in only
a year's time.
