Students React to
Parking Proposal
by Erin de Poix
Parking at Carolina has never been easy, and it could become even
more of a hassle.
Students, faculty and staff met Tuesday at an on-campus forum to
voice their opinions about a proposal to charge for night parking.
The Transportation and Parking Advisory Committee is facing a $2
million debt and is looking for ways to raise money.
But some say the current proposal may compromise students
safety if they have to park in lots far from where they need to
go.
UNC-Chapel Hill junior Brooke Baker says, "When you get to
C-TOPS, they tell you, 'don't walk on campus-it's not safe.'
If this proposal goes through, students will be walking long distances
at night on-campus just to get to the library and they do not want
to have to pay to feel safe at night.
The committee will present its recommendations to the Board of
Trustees next month.
