Meet by Nicole Denman The Carolina track and field team seems to like its indoor arena, which was christened this Sunday. The Eddie Smith Fieldhouse proved a positive place for the Tar Heels, with four members meeting NCAA provisional standards. One being senior Ian Douglas who earned first place in the men's shot put, giving him a good shot at making the national championships. Laura Risi leaped over the rest of the field in the women's pole vault, capturing the title by half a foot. Head Coach Dennis Craddock is optimistic about the impact of this new indoor facility. "Being able to practice here and have meets at home instead of always having to travel, recruiting wise it's going to be great. Just, for the last three years we haven't had a place to go when it's 20 degrees and ice. So, it's going to be super." |
