| Speakout On Commencement
Speaker by Michelle Muscatello In this week's speakout, we asked senior Carolina students: what do you think about having a faculty member give the commencement address? Senior Beverly Hertig said, "It's graduation, you know, and it's supposed to be something for the seniors. They're supposed to make it as fun as possible. We see faculty members everyday. So, why not try to bring in someone who's going to be a little more interesting so graduates will remember them." Senior Jeremy O'Keefe said, "They mentioned Bill Cosby and Sam Shepherd and some people, but aren't there about a hundred thousand other celebrities or distinguished people that could have come and spoken to us?" Senior Courtney Jackson said, "We see these people every single day. And for a commencement speaker we want somebody different, somebody other than a regular faculty member." Senior Brian Selig said, "It is a bit of a disappointment considering some of the well-known people we've had in the past." Our sample isn't scientific and shouldn't be taken as widespread opinion on campus. |
