Tuition Task Force Proposal
by Brandon H. Herring

UNC Chapel Hill students are one step closer to paying more for a Carolina education.

Members of the Task Force on Tuition met Tuesday to decide what they will tell Carolina’s Board of Trustees on January 24th.

Task force members decided to propose a one-year tuition increase of $400 for all students starting in the Fall.

A plan to increase tuition during a five-year period was put off until other UNC system schools could give input.

Student Body President Justin Young and Provost Robert Shelton were the task force co-chairs.

Provost Shelton said the task force "came to a general consensus" on the nature and level of the need for a tuition increase. "Now the only question is how do we go about addressing it,” said Shelton. Shelton adds that this "certainly is not a closed issue."

The proposal will go to the University System Board of Governors for a final decision.
