Chapel Hill Round
Up
Updates on the Graduation Speaker, Qatar, and the Union
By Erin de Poix
An update of on-going University issues in our Chapel Hill Round
Up. First, the announcement of the commencement speaker. U.S. Senator
and UNC Law School Alum John Edwards is the final choice. He's mentioned
as a possible Democratic candidate for president in 2004. There
is still no decision on whether UNC-Chapel Hill will accept the
offer to establish a business school in the Middle Eastern country
of Qatar. Chancellor James Moeser is scheduled to address the Board
of Trustees later this week to discuss the issue. Also undecided:
when will construction of the Student Union end? The $14 million
project has fallen behind because of contractor delays and weather.
Orginally expected to be finished last summer, the construction
is now expected to wrap up in March.
