Campus Elections Kickoff
By Tim Nelson
We may be in the middle of winter, but it is a new season here
on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus -- campaign season.
It is that time again; campaigning is officially underway. For
the next three weeks, posters endorsing candidates for several positions
will cover campus bulletin boards. Candidates will be all-across
campus seeking your vote.
Campaigning kicked off Tuesday night at an informational meeting
for those seeking office. Candidates got a review of election rules
and signed papers officially declaring their candidacy.
After the meeting, Carolina Week caught up with one of the student
body president candidates and asked how it feels to get started.
"It's sort of an odd combination of being nerve-racking and a
relief at the same time," said junior Fred Hashagen. "The day is
finally here, but there's a lot of work ahead of us. It's an interesting
confluence of feelings right now."
As of now, there are seven candidates for student body president,
five pairs of running mates for senior class officers and two candidates
for Carolina Athletic Association president. Two positions have
just one candidate; the presidential slots for the Residence Hall
Association and the Graduate and Professional Student Federation.
The general election is February 12th. Voting will again be online.
Here are some of the student body president candidates' web sites.
