Student Response
to Tuition Proposal
by Brandon H. Herring
Carolina's Student Government is protesting the recent decision
made by the Task Force on Tuition.
Student leaders met last week to discuss their concerns about the
task force proposal to increase tuition by $400 this fall.
Student leaders want specifics on how the money will be used before
they support the proposal.
Student Government's External Relations Committee Chair Frances
Ferris says a tuition increase isn't the only answer to Carolina's
financial woes.
Ferris said, "It shouldn't be the students against the Board of
Trustees, and then the students against the Board of Governors.
We should all work together as a coalition and go to the General
Assembly and say where's the money we deserve.
"She adds that Student Government's main goal is to be sure student
input is recognized now and in the future.
The UNC system Board of Governors will meet February 8th to make
a final decision about the tuition proposal.
