Women Basketball Prepares for Duke
By Steve Lyerly
The Lady Heels are trying to re-adjust after a tough week, as they
hit the halfway point of their conference schedule. Carolina Week's
Steve Lyerly has the story.
The ladies are down, but they are hoping this week they can get
back up. After starting the season 13-2, the Lady Heels have lost
three out of their last four; including loses to rival N.C. State
and Georgia Tech.
UNC-CH guard Coretta Brown said, "It's crazy. It's like you
said, we started out blowing teams out. The first time we played
Wake Forest, we blew them out by 30 and then to lose to them by
one at their place, it's kind of hard."
Injuries to key players like Candace Sutton and a one game suspension
to star guard Nikki Teasley have compounded the streak of bad luck.
Carolina center Candance Sutton said, "Definitely, our intensity
level has gone down a lot. We played tremendous at the beginning
of the season. Everybody was fired up and intense and I think that's
something that we have to get back."
The ladies know the season is not lost and there is no better
way to get back on track than with a win against the top team in
the ACC; arch rival Duke.
"It's Duke, so you know you're going to get pumped up. It's
our rival school so that's really all the motivation you need to
go out there and play hard," said Sutton.
The Lady Heels travel to Durham Thursday night to take on the
Devils, going into that game they're 14 and five overall and four
and three in ACC play.
