Catalan verb conjugatorWe are pleased to announce that a task we have been meaning to complete for quite some time now has finally been finished. Up until now, when Dacco users searched the Catalan-English dictionaries, beside every Catalan verb they found a 'conj' link which, when clicked upon, provided them with the conjugation of the verb in question. Over the weekend, we have linked that verb conjugator into our Dacco homepage so that users can enter Catalan verbs straight into a simple search box on the homepage and have their verbs conjugated one after the other. Agreement with TermcatLast month, Dacco came to an agreement with Termcat, the net result of which is that from now on we are able to incorporate vocabulary from Termcat's 'Terminologia Oberta' word lists into our dictionaries. This is exciting news for our project as it means we are able to add to our database thousands of officially-sanctioned new words in specialist fields such as snowboarding, IT and human resources, thereby giving our users access to a much richer vocabulary base. Dacco and qdacco in Debian; Release of qdacco 0.4A couple of items of news... Firstly, for a few weeks now Dacco and qdacco have been available within Debian (one of the most important GNU/Linux distributions). This means that Dacco and qdacco are easily accessible for people running this distribution. The package maintainer for both is Miguel Gea. We would also like to announce that version 0.4 of qdacco (the application which allows us to use Dacco offline) has just been released. By cpina at 19/04/2006 - 23:16 | read more
Dacco Regex DictionaryThe DACCO Regex Dictionary allows you to search DACCO's English-Catalan and Catalan-English dictionaries for words based on how they are spelled and, optionally, by part of speech. (For example, you can look for all adjectives ending in "-ly".) It is based on Lou Hevly's Regex Dictionary, where you will find a complete explanation of its use in the step-by-step tutorial. Add an entry (or two) to DaccoDacco has been a collaborative project since it was first created in 2003. The dictionary is added to on a daily basis by a core team of contributors. Up until now, the only way a Dacco user had of adding new words to the dictionary was to join the Dacco mailing list and enter their suggestions via a slightly complicated tracking system. However, all that has now changed. We have been working hard on introducing a new system that will allow any Dacco user who has created an account on the website to suggest new entries via a very simple web form that, quite honestly, is as simple as it gets. Catalan-English dictionary reaches 10,000 entriesThanks to some very hard work from the whole Dacco team, we are pleased to announce that the Catalan-English dictionary has today reached the milestone of 10,000 entries. Particular thanks are due to Raül, Jaume and Margarita for the amazing number of new entries they have suggested over the past few weeks and also to Max, Jonathan, Lou and Gill for making sure that each of these new entries is of the highest possible quality. New application for using Dacco off lineQDacco is a new application, written by Carles Pina i Estany, which allows users to search the Dacco dictionaries off line and, therefore, much more quickly. The current version, 0.2, is in beta. We would encourage users to try it and hope that they will spot bugs (which, if reported, will be resolved). Some functionality still needs to be added but the basics are there (you can search for words in both languages). By cpina at 25/09/2005 - 12:30 | read more

What do you use Dacco for?Dacco has been written, from the beginning, as a user-oriented dictionary. The needs and requirements of English speakers learning Catalan and Catalan speakers learning English are always foremost in our mind as we add to and improve the dictionary on a daily basis. You will notice that our website has gained a new box at the top right of this page which is where we will, from now on, periodically post questions that we would like our users to answer in order to help us ensure that we are, in fact, channeling our energies in the right direction. A picture is worth a thousand words...For some time now we have planned to add the ability to include pictures into Dacco. This has now been done. Dacco users will notice that certain words in the dictionary are now accompanied by a small camera icon which, when clicked on, displays a photo relevant to that word. To see what we mean, use the box at the top left of this page and do a quick search for 'ninot', 'gegant' or 'falla'. By admin at 20/07/2005 - 18:37
