Charlotte Latin - Charlotte - Oct. 22 '94

Tournament report

By Shane Greene

OK I know everyone wants a summary so I will make an attempt at it. Darkside took 13 people to Charlotte on Saturday. Thoses attending included Chris, Shane, Nash, Geoff, David, Connie, Carrie, Ryan, Carter, Jay, Andrew, Allen, and Snack. In Darkside's first game against Airborne Wad (A local Charlotte club team) Darkside came out strong and the score at half was 7 to 5 Airborne. However Darkside came out weak in the second half and lost the game 13 to 8. I can't remember any special plays in the first game but Darkside worked well as a team.

Our next game was against Asheville(well I think they had 4 Asheville players). Asheville managed to pick up Coach Fox and some guy who played for Ring, someone probably knows his name but I don't. Again Darkside played close to Asheville for the first half. Thanks to impressive layouts by, you guessed, Chris and impressive catches by Nash. In The second half we once again came out weak but managed to tie the game at 12 to 12. We were playing to 13 with cap at 15. Instigating Darkside's come back and tie was stong play from Andrew and Jay. Darkside lost the next two points and lost 14 to 12 but I think after the Asheville game Darkside played the best together that we ever have.

Our next game was against arch-rival Dook and what a game it was. Darkside opened the game with a 6 to 2 run with stong play from Connie, Carrie and David. But then Darkside fell asleep and Dook took half and lead 7 to 6. Once again Darkside came out flat in the second half and Dook mounted a lead. However Darkside managed to tie the score at 13 to 13, thanks to numerous cheers by Carter, and hard and enthusiastic play by Carter, Alan (who was a strong force all day), and Ryan. We traded points until the game was tied at 14 to 14 by a throw to Shane from Geoff who then hit Chris in the endzone with a hammer. The next point was certainly intense. The point probably lasted for five or ten minutes and with support from King Rat on the sideline the Darkside was able to keep the momentum and score on an excellent throw from Nash to Snack in the endzone. Darkside captured its first win of the weekend. Again Darkside played very well as a team.

Darkside's last game of the day was against Charlotte Latin. We were very tired becasue of the previous game against dook while Latin was fresh from waiting for us. I can't remeber the specifics of the gmae but Latin took half at 7 to 5. Darkside battled back to tie the score at 12 to 12. Because neither team could see the disk for more than 15 yards(it was dark) we decided to cap the game at 13. Darkside played intense defense and held Latin out of the endzone on consecutive plays but turned the disc back over everytime and Latin eventually scored on a throw from Coach Fox. I say we played Latin but really we played Coach Fox and the red bandana dude (see someone who played for an explanation).

Overall I was very pleased with the way Darkside played together. We drew strength each other and the bail of hay(once again see someone who attended for an explanation). Even though Darkside ended the day 1 and 3, with a spread of only 4 points over 3 games, we could have easily gone 3 and 1.
