Duke Scrimmage - Duke Campus - Sept. 24, 1994

Scrimmage report

Darkside travelled to Duke Saturday afternoon for a wet game. After hunting down Ryan Brown and dragging him out of his bed (it was 11:30 Ryan!) we headed for Duke. Our cast of characters included: Jay Barry, Ryan Brown, Andrew Certain, Keyne Cheshire, Alan Dewel, Brad Holland, Alan Hoyle, Emily Larson, Mark Parris, Chip Peck, David Penuel, Cliff Reinhardt, Chris Rodning, Drew Terzian, Tyme, Barry Wyner.

We started off balanced with Duke. The game was tied at 3's and Duke took a lead at 4-3 but then we managed to get ahead 6-4. Cliff was showing off his vertical ability and Chip seemed to have an ability to appear from nowhere on defense. At the half, it was UNC 8-5. In the second half, Duke appeared to start off with a strong squad and we traded points up to 10-7. However, then things began to go UNC's way. Jay was playing aggressive 'D'. Tyme cut to the front cone for a score. Alan began striking with the huck. Chris Rodning was simply being outstanding on offense and defense, breaking force and intercepting passes all over. Drew, David, and Barry, all playing in their first game with Darkside adjusted to our chemistry and made steady contributions. Alan Dewel was continuing to demonstrate his willingess to lay it out. We struck for 4 straight points to bring the score to 14-7 in the game to 15. Then, after Duke's turnover near their own endzone, Alan picked up the disc and threw a lead pass to the far corner for the game winning score as Mark leaned out for the catch and toed the line to complete a 5-0 run.

Andrew, Ryan, Keyne, Brad, and Emily continued their usual boring performances of throwing completions and catching whatever came their way. Too bad we aren't all so consistenly boring. :-)

Darkside improves its record to 4-2 and is on a 4 game winning streak. I can't say enough about how excited I am with the way we've been playing this year. As many of the returning folks can tell you, this time last year we were wondering if we'd win a game. New and old players alike are blending well. Things are going to get tougher but I'm convinced we'll continue to do well and play strong in the spring (the main college season).

Go Darkside!
