The White House
Health Care Reform Today
October 6, 1993
- As alternatives to the President's plan are
introduced, we want you to ask the following
questions:
- 1. Does it guarantee that you will always have
health coverage?
- 2. Does it guarantee that no matter who you
work for, where you work or where you
live, that you will have health care coverage?
- 3. Does it guarantee that if you get sick, or
anyone in your family gets sick, will they
have health coverage?
- 4. Does it guarantee that you will have a
comprehensive package of benefits that
amount to good, decent health care coverage?
- 5. Does it make sure that the health care
system is simplified, getting rid of
paperwork and that it cuts through red tape?
- 6. Does it give you a choice as to which doctor
you see and the hospital you use and
who can provide your health care?
- 7. Does it guarantee quality?
- 8. Does it make sure that you know more about
what works and then works to make
it more available to everyone?
- 9. Does it help you save money in the system
you currently use?
- 10. Does it begin to weed out waste, fraud and
abuse that you know is there?
- 11. Does it make everyone responsible?
- 12. Does it eliminate the free ride that too
many people have so that when they show
up to get health care, you pay the bill?
- There are the tough questions that will have
to be asked in the days to come. Remember,
Republicans and Democrats alike agree: We have
to have health security for all Americans. And,
we will not compromise on these six, simple
principles: Security, Simplicity, Savings,
Responsibility, Quality and Choice.
