The Cascades Volcano Observatory has a unique set of original slides, negatives and video covering the 1980's eruption of Mount St. Helens.   This project would be to preserve selected images in digital form so that they do not become lost to the public record.

Size:

There are an estimated 10,000 slides, over 10,000 ft of airphoto negatives, and many old format video cartridges that need to be scanned and properly archived.

Data condition:

Many of these slides are starting to deteriorate and the media they are on is becoming very brittle.  Digitizing the images is the best way to preserve them.
