- April 20, 2008 -- Revival at the
Homestead -- 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Experience a 19th
century outdoor church meeting led by a circuit-riding preacher.
Enjoy traditional hymns and an authentic sermon. Free.
- April 20, 2008 -- Exhibit Premiere --
4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Come see the Tobacco Museum's newest
temporary exhibit, "Anyone in Need of an Ashtray?,"
immediately following our Revival at the Homestead event.
Enjoy the exhibit and light refreshments. Free
- June 7, 2008 -- Herb, Garden and Craft
Festival -- 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Enjoy a wide variety
of herb and craft vendors, 19th century games for children,
traditional herbal use displays, and refreshments. Attend
afternoon bluegrass shows, craft demonstrations, and more. Free.
- September 6, 2008 -- Harvest and
Hornworm Festival -- 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In the
morning, come see costumed interpreters demonstrate tobacco
harvesting, stringing, and curing. In the afternoon, hear the
sounds of the only tobacco auction left in Durham. Throughout
the day, enjoy the hornworm festival, which will be highlighted by the
2nd Annual Duke Homestead Hornworm Race, an antique tractor show, and
a Moon Pie eating contest. Free.
- October 18, 2008 -- An Evening at the
Homestead -- 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Join the Duke
Homestead Junior Interpreters as they prepare the Homestead for
winter. This afternoon program features traditional music, wagon rides, fall foods, relays and 19th century
games. Bring a picnic for dinner on the grounds. Free.
- December 5 & 12, 2008 -- Christmas
by Candlelight -- 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Celebrate an
1870 Christmas during evening tours of the Homestead. The tour
features period decorations, caroling, hot apple cider, and other
goodies. Free.
