"3D Sculptures for Web" gallery

You can explore these spline-based models by any Web browser with a VRML viewer plugin. Java applet works under "Cosmo" at al. Native Nurbs work under "Cortona" and "Contact" only!
Ivana I wasn't able to see "Ona" > 25kb on P133+32Mb RAM ("not enough resources") and I see "native" Ivana (126kb) but can't control she on PII-400 64Mb (Java doesn't work at all). IMHO Intel will be happy :)
I don't know why Java applet works very slowly under NC4.7+"Cortona" (you'd better use native Nurbs with "Cortona"). IE+Cortona are OK and all is OK under "Cosmo".

All models on this page are made by means of a free 3D modeller "sPatch" (see also "sPatch" User Galleries). I only converted the files to VRML. You can easy make and convert for Web your models too (see How to export spline-based models to VRML). I'd like to visit 3D virtual musem: "Pharaon valley", Ancient and Modern sculptures (computer scanned) and so on... dissecting room will suit too :)

If I managed to build in "sPatch" this CartoonElephant and animation, then everybody can make any Cartoon Character too :) All sources are here. Read beatiful Anto Matkovic's HEAD modeling in sPATCH, then see hints and examples.

3D Splines & Web

At least two types of complex 3D objects can be "compressed" by tiny scripts for Web. Complexity of these models is limited only by PC hardware (i.e. polygons number) but not by Web "wires". The first are highly jagged but self-similar fractal polyhedra, trees and terrain. The second are smooth bodies. It is evedent that only limited set of control points is enough to determine shape of a smooth object by splines. The splines can be realized easy in JavaScript or Java. "Cortona" and "Blaxxun Contact" VRML browsers support splines. "Blaxxun Interactive" proposed NURBS Extension for VRML97. But we can use "spline applets" while 3D splines are not included in VRML-2.
