I was able to dig a few more random messages out of Google’s Usenet archive by hand-crawling through the earliest archives. A few more messages showed up; unfortunately EMUSIC-D doesn’t seem to have been archived. Pity. Apple has added a new iApp, GarageBand, to iLife ’04. For $49, Mac OS X users can have a decent multi-track recorder and loop compositor. Looks great!
Like many, I still like mailing lists for getting a real exchange of ideas, or for at least getting to watch the exchange go by. EMUSIC-L was unique in its time in having a large number of music theorists and academics along with any number of different orientations toward “popular” electronic music.
