Different Skies: Day 4

Yesterday was mostly practice and preparations. I spent most of the morning optimizing my setup, but late in the afternoon we put together the intro piece which includes me doing Tibetan throat singing. In for a penny, in for a pound. I’ll be using quite a number of things: Ableton Live, Brad Garton’s jlooch (slightly modified for use in performance), the SD-1, dumbek, and vocals. I’m finding that I’ve stretched to play a lot of stuff that I probably wouldn’t have done on my own, let alone live on stage; having such an incredible talented and supportive group has made me feel much more confident. I mean, Tibetan throat singing?!

We’ve already established the full running order, and will be doing more runthroughs for various pieces tomorrow; we did a couple of very cool jams post practice in the evening, and then set up the stage lighting. I was up on the ladder since I was about the tallest. Afterward I was also the dustiest.

We adjourned to the music room after that, and watched the version of Nightfall that was filmed at Arcosanti back in the 80’s. Much MST3K style riffing occurred, especially since the tape was very old and had no sound, but we always manage to make our own amusement. “DID I MENTION THE BIG ******* CLIFF???”

Oh yes! And the shirts arrived!
