From the ad, it seems like it might be pretty good. I would also like to know what the heck is happening with the Proteus. The latest I heard is that they (EMU) are re-releasing it with a slightly different name (Proteus RM or something like that) and are also raising the price another $200US. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Oct 89 10:02:14 -0400 From: Brian Adamson Subject: Info on different equipment. Hello everyone: I am considering a bit of a home studio expansion and am interested in a little info on some equipment for which I haven't seen reviews in recent trade magazines. First, has anynone had any experience with any of these new 8-track cassette recorders such as the Tascam Syncassette 238 or this Sansui 6-track thing. Also, the Akai recorders & recorder/mixers look interesting. How do they sound? How easy to use? What type of synchronization capabilities do they support? Secondly, I am thinking of ditching my MT-32 for something with similar functionality (i.e. many multi-timbral voices, plus percussion). Does anyone know any details on the Emu Proteus or other similar products? I guess my price range is approx. $1K U.S. for this item so I don't know what that will buy me. I am really looking for a sound quality improvement over the MT-32 without having to pay too much for it. I am also interested in finding a decent general purpose Audio Compressor to use primarily for keeping an Electric Bass within a reasonable dynamic range, but will probably end up using it for vocals occasionally as well. Also, if anyone can refer me to any magazine reviews of any of the above things, particularly the multi-track recorders, I would be very grateful. ANd, of course, any pricing information would be of value. Unfortunately, I missed parts 1, 2 and 3. Could someone please e-mail the missing parts to me? Thanks in advance. I captured all parts and printed out for future reference. A very plesant writing style to read. And to have volunteered such an effort is outstanding. They're much appreciated. However, I'm afraid that without someone else's help the MMI papers will have been lost forever; I no longer have them. My computer account has a strict limit on disk space, and my allocation is so small that I can barely save anything. My policy on posts to any newsgroup has therefore been to write, post, confirm, and delete. Sorry. If there's an EMUSIC-L archive somewhere, or there was someone out there who saved Parts 1, 2, and 3 (to go with the Parts 4 and 5 that at least two List readers have saved), could someone please take the time and effort to dig up and repost those papers? I've forgotten what was in them, and now that people are writing me to ask questions, I'd like to refresh my memory. |-> Hopefully, metlay | GEARHEAD RIDDLE OF THE MONTH: (the "m.m." stands for | Q: What do you get when you release a synth "my moniker's") | that adds features its predecessor should metlay@pittvms.BITNET | have had all along, thus obsoleting it? metlay@vms.cis.pitt.EDU | A: I dunno; I didn't buy an M1 or VFX. |-> ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Oct 89 19:28:03 EDT From: "Kevin R.
