I saw your message in EMUSIC-D. Really, there is few information about Vangelis and his work. Perhaps, the reason would be a possible hermit be- havior of Vangelis. A few weeks ago, I got a Vangelis' discography and, in true, this is the unique real information about Vangelis. But, Vangelis is a great genius of the music! Humberto Jose' Bortolossi ======================================================================== Revision 1.2 (October 9, 1990) This document is a discography of Vangelis Papathanassiou. This discography was compiled by Dave Datta with George Regnery. The information included is from the covers of the various items and the books included in the sets and Compact Discs. Please send any additions or corrections to: Datta Production and Development George Regnery 905 97th Street 13 Hampden Street Kenosha, WI 53143 or Worcester, MA 01609 (datta@vacs.uwp.wisc.edu) (regnery@wpi.wpi.edu) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Abbreviations Key: Album Full album release. 12" Single 12" Vinyl release (CD) Collection Album A collection of songs that are released on various albums and the total collection is too large to be called a single. The collection albums do not necessarily have the exact same versions that are included on the album or 12" releases. Compilation Album A collection album that has various tracks from other albums. These tracks are the same as the tracks found on the Singles and Album releases. Live Album A collection of new and previously released songs recorded live. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes: The times listed on the albums and collections are from the CD releases unless otherwise noted. Most CD track times were found using a Sony Discman D555 CD player and the time on your CD player may vary slightly (+- 5-8 seconds) due to the way different machines calculate track times. Additional information is welcomed, especially instrumentation information on the albums. Information with question marks is not verified, if you have further information, please let me know. * Information on releases was not put into the Full Discography unless track listings or other information is known. There are more releases in the Short Listing. If a release has an asterisk (*) in front of the title in the short discography, then please send information about it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Short Discography ALBUMS AND OTHER WORKS BY VANGELIS PAPATHANASSIOU (b. 3/29/1943) --------------------------------------------------------------- ALBUMS ------ Year ---- 19?? *The Best of Jon and Vangelis Compilation Album 19?? *Break Album 19?? *Ich HaB Kein Angst Album [3] 19?? *It's Five O'Clock Album [2] 19?? *Rapsodies Album [1] 19?? *Tra du Sogni Album [3] 19?? *Vangelis' Greatest Hits Compilation Album 1968 *Rain and Tears Album [2] 1969 The Best of Aphrodite's Child Album [2] 1969 *Fais Que Ton Reve Soit Plus Long Que La Nuit (Make sure your dreams are longer than the night) Album 197? *To the Unknown Man Compilation Album 1970 666 Album [2] 1971 Hypothesis Album 1971 *Sex Power Soundtrack 1971 The Dragon Album 1973 Earth Album 1973 L'Apocalypse Des Animaux Soundtrack 1975 Heaven and Hell Album 1975 Ignacio Soundtrack 1975 La Fete Sauvage Soundtrack 1976 Albedo 0.39 Album 1977 Spiral Album 1978 Beaubourg Album 1978 Best of Vangelis Compilation Album 1979 China Album 1979 Odes Album [1] 1979 Opera Sauvage Soundtrack 1979 Short Stories Album 1980 See You Later Album 1981 Chariots of Fire Soundtrack 1981 The Friends of Mr. Cairo Album 1981 *Heaven and Hell, Part I, 3rd movement [Cosmos] 12" Single 1981? *Chariots of Fire, main title 12" Single 1981 *Cosmos Soundtrack 1983 Private Collection Album 1984 Invisible Connections Album 1984 Mask Album 1984 Soil Festivities Album 1985 Antarctica Soundtrack 1988 Direct Album 1989 Chariots of Fire, main title CD5 Single 1989 Missing CD3 Single 1989 Themes Collection Album 1989 Will of the Wind CD5 Single [1] With Irene Papas. I still find him interesting, as he is far more perverse and diverse than the bulk of his peers, but I find Mask, H&H, Direct, etc very overbearing. Vangelis produced 2 brilliant albums, "See You Later" & "Soil Festivities", both eccentric as hell, a couple of _weird_ ones ("Invisible Connections" and "Beaubourg"), a few reasonable ones ("Albedo 0.39, Spiral, Earth ...) and a lot of overbearing dross (anything with the words "Jon Anderson" on the back :-) ). The most puzzling to me is Invisible Connections, especially given the label it's on. Since it was released simultaneously with "Mask", maybe some clues are to be found for the latter. Me, I'll make do with Soil Festivities Part 1. ------------------------------ End of the EMUSIC-L Digest ******************************
