Maybe there is some option to make the 01/W send timing data over MIDI, and that will get things rolling nicely. If not, you would probably have to set Mtpro to an internal clock, but then getting the timing synched up (so that the measure positions and note durations are in sync with Mtpro's timing and/or metronome) will be difficult. That may not be important if you just want to capture your sequence, and then perhaps add more tracks. Then you can just set Mtpro into its highest resolution mode and capture the note information. Disclaimer: I don't own either an 01/W or Mtpro, so I'm just guessing based on my experience with my own toys (Sequencer Plus, and assorted MIDI modules). -- Greg Youngdahl AT&T Bell Laboratories Naperville, IL greg@ihlpm.att.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Mar 1992 11:13:03 CST From: "Jonathon Simon" Subject: Re: How to record a demo song from Keyboard I'd think you would wan't MTPRO to provide the clocking for the keyboard (The keyboard should be set for external clocking - MTPRO for internal). That way MTPRO sets the pace for how fast it can handle the incoming midi data. If instead, you have the keyboard set the pace, it's possible that MTPRO may not be able to assimilate the midi info as fast as its coming in. Also make sure the midi-out of the 01/W and the MTPRO midi-in are set up for the same channel. (I'm not familiar with MTPRO, but I am familar with the 01/W) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Mar 1992 08:40:00 EST From: wbf@CBEMA.ATT.COM Subject: How to record a demo song from Keyboard Hi Jack Hwang, > I tried to do it with Mtpro's clock switch to external, and assigning > it to multi track record, and then start the keyboard's sequencer to play > the song I wanna recorded, but I didn't record anything in Mtpro... If you're tyring to record a demo sequence from your 01/W, maybe Korg designed the demo so that it does NOT send any MIDI data. This would protect their demo songs. Try recording something into the 01/W's sequencer and then play that into your PC. That transfer should happen. If not, maybe a 01/W user or a Master Tracks Pro user on the net may have a clue as to what you need to do. Mr Letter-Originator, boot up the demo on >your 01/W and simply check the midi channel assignments for each track More importantly, check the 01/W GLOBAL channel assignment. That is the chan- nel that all tracks in the demo will be transmitted to the MTPro over. The original demo track info is encoded in the midi data stream on the GLOBAL channel so the MTPro can then decode the info into its own multi-track sequences. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Mar 1992 17:48:00 CST From: U334125@TWNCU865.BITNET Subject: How to record a demo song from Keyboard Hi,there. I would like to know how to record a song from a keyboard sequencer. I'm now using a 386-PC with MPU-IPC to connect to my 01/W,and I'm using Master tracks pro as my MIDI software. I tried to do it with Mtpro's clock switch to external, and assigning it to multi track record, and then start the keyboard's sequencer to play the song I wanna recorded, but I didn't record anything in Mtpro... I'm sure that my MIDI cables are connected properly( I tried record a song by realtime recording and it success ).Can anyone tell me that where do I make a mistake? Mr Letter-Originator, boot up the demo on your 01/W and simply check the midi channel assignments for each track Greg also says it straight and true. If MTPro does not "slave to external] synch," and the company has no suggestion, go ahead, use the highest resolution mode, set the software to internal MIDI signal, clock, or whatever, and have a verbal one or two bar countdown, start the 01/W demo tune manually, and record that tune that you like. If you are unable to record the demo in that mode, I would like to hear about it, because that would have interest implications for copy protection/copyright. The other thing...check out the MIDI implementa- tion of the 01/W exhaustively. Ditto for your MTPro manual, which is supposed to be one of the three best sequencers, so it should have the most advance features and slaving the software to an external source can be very simple if you know the proper MIDI synch alternatives/possibilities for each piece of hardware and software/hardware combinations. Recording the demo manually then gives you the options of f*****g up what you get, even at highest resolution, when and if you decide to use quantizing. Occasionally, quantizing at the correct level will produce an effect of making an electronic tune sound perfect. -73- Marshall Gilula mgilula@miasun.med.miami.edu ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Mar 1992 14:48:10 EST From: ronin Subject: Re: How to record a demo song from Keyboard does the 01/w actually generate midi sync? you could try it the other way around. let mtpro generate the midi sync, and have the 01/w's clock on external, instead. -----------< Cognitive Dissonance is a 20th Century Art Form >----------- Eric Harnden (Ronin) or The American University Physics Dept. 4400 Mass. I used my trusty M1 for the procedure using a factory sequence; no problemo whatsoever! Took me a whole of a minute or so to set it up. Unless there is something drastically changed in the 01/W, I'm not sure what the problem would be. All I did was this: 1) Loaded MTP/Windows and set it to "Multi-Track Record" in the layout menu 2) Enabled recording on the first 8 tracks (without channelizing) 3) Left MTP in INTERNAL synch and put the M1 into EXTERNAL synch. 4) I then simply hit the record button on the transport window and voila! After the sequence finished, MTP nicely showed me that all my data had arrived safe and sound. ------------------------------ End of the EMUSIC-L Digest ******************************
