This product used to sell within the same range as the others ($400-500 I think) but it's now outdated and surpassed by more recent entries into the market. Anyway, you get what you pay for: it's buggy, awkward to use (can't do everything from one menu, have to skip around to lots of different places to see what you're entering, etc. Some of the functions on my machine (Mac Classic, 2Mb RAM 40Mb hard disk) are excruciatingly (like put on the kettle, make a cup of tea and come back) slow... BUT, in spite of all this it gets the job done, if you have a lot patience and try a few kludges to get around some of the program limitations. The end product, at least, is quite respectable looking. As for the inconveniences, well, I just think of the the $400+ that I saved this year and look forward to upgrading to something better when I can afford it. This is not any more than a lukewarm endorsement of HB Engraver, of course. But within the price range you specify, you must be ready to accept some compromises... anyway, if you can get to a shop that sells this stuff you might check to see if they have any 'obsolete' notation software you can get for a song, relatively speaking, as I did.
