We have five members who play up to two Yamaha WX7 wind controllers, Roland Octapads and 5 keyboards. We have access to most of the common synths and samplers. We are looking for new pieces, particularly as we may be coming to the States and Europe next year. In Australia we perform around the country by ourselves or as part of Festivals, and receive regular radio broadcast. We play a range of music, from minimalist note-pieces to sound and noise- based works. I would particularly like to get my hands on anything composed for the WX7! You have any problem with non-western tunings? Can I send you the patches [6-op FM] that would go with the piece? I'm working primarily with just intonational variants of Indonesian tunings and ah... non- standard scores [graphic, although mostly for gamelan], but the group sounds interesting. You got any commish dough sitting around [this is something we always ask. THe answer is usually "Yes. $20," and someone owes me a dinner]? I wouldn't be professional if I didn't ask, now would I? Seriously - tell me about your equipment at present.... I am currently re-programming to make a version for 2 WX7s and a keyboard, so this might interest you. The piece is called "Pythagoras' Ghost" and uses six or eight unique scales drawn from the table of Pythagoras. The voices are quite pure so you hear the acoustic effects of the various intervals very nicely. Why don't you email Martin (martin_bartlett@mailserver.sfu.ca) and ask him about it. This version will be ultra-simple techwise - just the MIDI instruments all merged into a single TX802. No computers or other synths necessary. It is due to be played by a group here in early May I believe. See you Matt rogalsky@mailserver.sfu.ca ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Apr 1992 01:25:18 GMT From: "Tony Hood and Ian Fredericks at SUESS" Subject: Antipodean WX7s Attn: Jon Crystal Thanks for the info. Just one thing - from which part of the world is the PRISM sax quartet? I would like to get in touch with them. Does anyone know of anyone else who performs on WX7 or similar device and who may have music? I did see a Toronto-based group in a concert in London some years ago but I can't remember the details.
