Vision, Master Traks Pro, and Performer. Just getting into software based sequencing and wanted something that I could expand into nicely. Thanks in advance. -- <^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^> < Steve Buck Internet: (sbuck@eddie.ee.vt.edu) > < > ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Apr 1992 13:54:00 GMT From: Eric McCormick <0004775674@MCIMAIL.COM> Subject: Re: mac sequencers I have only used MasterTracks Pro 4 so I can only comment on this product. It is extremely easy to use, and I was up and sequencing without a first glance at the manual. I won't talk about the basics because I'm sure all sequencers give you onscreen track status, volume control, initial program change commands, etc. The things that I really like about MasterTracks Pro is the "Quantize" and "Humanize" features. Quantizing moves the notes to any "set" resolution (such as 16th notes), while Humanizing moves them back off the rigid time structure just a hair here or there randomly to give it a more human touch. This can be applied to velocity, duration, time (in ticks), etc. The other thing I like is the note editor that shows you your music like a player piano roll which makes it very easy to spot wrong notes and delete them. As far as speed is concerned, it runs fairly well on my Mac SE, but I'm sure it absolutely screams on the II and above Macs. Some features that I don't have that I would like to see is an option that allows you to insert Mac samples as voices in your sequence to play through the Mac speaker (actually through the earphone jack mixed into the synth mix.) I don't yet have a sampler and for the things I do it would be fantastic to be able to have even two sample channels that I could mix realtime into my music. If you have any specific questions about MasterTracks Pro, don't hesitate to post them here.. I will answer them the best I can. Or, you can mail me directly. +--------------------------------------------------------------+ | _&_ | | / \ | | | | | | | (0)(0) Eric McCormick | | C .---_) | | | |.___| MCI Telecommunications | | | \__/ | | /_____\ 0004775674@MCIMAIL.COM | | /_____/ \ (Internet) | | / \ | +--------------------------------------------------------------+ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Apr 1992 00:54:00 EDT From: Robert Whitehead Subject: MIDI and Ensoniq SQ1 Hi, Does anyone know if Ensoniq are available via INTERNET?? A friend has just purchased an SQ1 and would like both the MIDI 1.0 protocol and the SQ1 SYSEX information. (I am hoping to be able to write a patch editor for it). If anyone can help with either - MIDI 1.0 protocol (or a means of obtaining it) SYSEX info for Ensoniq's SQ1 (Plus) Any code (any language) examples for patch editors. With regards in eager anticipation. Does anyone know of a source code listing that captures a MIDI sample dump. I would be happy to exchange code N. I've got more info on the MIDI-protocol - feel free to email me. BZZT - Wrong answer, sorry:-) The MIDI Sample Dump Standard post-dates the S612. The S612 (and most other "first-and-second-generation" samplers) used proprietary communications protocols for sample dumps. Now, you can store the data any way you want, but the transmit-receive protocol for MDS will not work with the S612. I would like to find a converter for MDS, though. If it converts to something well defined, perhaps I could rig it to work with the S612, giving more people access to "standard samples". You have all those files on nic.funet.fi, directory /pub/msdos/sound/cakewalk There is also a CD-ROM available with a complete collection of .ROL, .CMF, .WRK, .MOD etc files. I've encountered it on a French BBS. I don't have any further information. Anyway, the Internet is a poor source for music-related files. You should check bigger BBS-es around you for really interesting stuff. -- Adam Mirowski, mir@chorus.fr (FRANCE), tel. +33 (1) 30-64-82-00 or 74 Chorus systemes, 6, av.Gustave Eiffel, 78182 Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines CEDEX ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Apr 1992 15:29:05 CDT From: Dave Chesak Subject: UCSD .WRK files Can anyone give me some tips on a little problem? Just recently I found out how to access through ftp the files at UCSD.EDU and downloaded a number of song files that were listed under CAKEWALK ( .wrk files). I just acquired Cakewalk Pro (version 4.0) and tried to read the downloaded files. I keep getting "unexpected end of file" messages. Cakewalk reads .mid files with no difficulty and plays them without a hitch. Has anyone had this pr problem and found a way solve it? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Since cakewalk can read it in ok, it may write it out slightly different and wind up making it compatable with Cakewalk Pro. (Maybe try saving it under different formats in Cakewalk).
