Hi, I'm a new user to this list. I've recently become an electronic music fanatic; Buying up all the CD's I've been able to find in the Tower records located near my office. I've bought about 20 Tangerine Dream CDs, several of David Arkenstone's discs, and Michael Hoenig's "Departure From The Northern Wasteland" and I'm craving for more! I haven't seen much traffic on here since I joined last week, so I thought I might get a little conversation going by inquiring what each list member considers their favorite E-Music album. I'm also the owner of an Amiga 500 owner who's been dabbling in the composition of my own songs. I must admit that I'm mainly a guitar player (have been for almost twelve years now), and I'm just starting to play with keyboards. I was wodering if anyone else out there uses an Amiga for composing and if they know of any good FTP sites to get some instrument samples. Currently I'm using SONIX software and I have around 1.8 megs of different instrument samples on my harddrive. I'm looking for a good sample of a Mellotron strings sound (ala early King Crimson/Moody Blues/Tangerine Dream.) Thanks for any help in advance -Adam ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 May 1992 11:27:28 EDT From: "Joseph D. Most of my faves are now out of print and ridiculouly hard to find, but I'll note them anyway. Synergy - Sequencer - Nice use of (analog) sequencers and timbres. Cords - One of the best-unified EM performances ever. Almost symphonic in its development of themes. Wonderful timbres and effects. (both out of print) Carlos, W - Switched-on Bach - An old standby, but still a definitive work. Should be required listening for anyone who is interested in synth programming. (in print) Beauty in the Beast - Nonstandard tunings, incredible technique. A Clockwork Orange - This album doomed me forever to wanting to do electronic music. Especially good are the Theme Music and the excerpt from "Timesteps". (in print) Subotnick, Morton - Sidewinder Silver Apples of the Moon - Pure sound objects. Magnificent. (out of print - curses!) Dodge, Charles - Speech Songs (rereleased with other pieces as "Any Resemblance Is Completely Coincidental") - Hysterically funny, well done. (in print) And last but not least, a rarity: Trythall, Richard - "Omaggio a Jerry Lee Lewis" - "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" is the source sound for a marvelous piece of music concrete. (in print, but hard to find). --- Joe M. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1992 07:19:16 EDT From: "D. At the moment it will have a limited release on the internet, but it can be bounced anywhere. If you have music cassettes, CD's, videos, or anything else interesting along these lines please feel free to email me with your name, address, product, and a few lines discribing it, as well as a price, at yuen@nadc.navy.mil Thanks, Dan Yuen ------------------------------ End of the EMUSIC-L Digest ******************************
