MTU in Raleigh, NC offers a version for about $200 (919)870-0344. I suppose a talented C jockey would be able to do the port though, csound is at least very portable amoung different Unixes (I have compiled it on NeXT, SGI, HP, Dec, IBM and Sun). The source is available through anonymous ftp to ems.media.mit.edu. Also, Barry Vercoe is the principle author of csound, not Paul Lansky. Paul Lansky is the author of cmix. The 286 versions all have the name with _2 added. If you take them you will need ZPMSTUB.EXE as well. I will move sources to that directory as soon as I can arrange the transfer. ==John ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1992 11:43:28 GMT From: J P Fitch Subject: csound for smaller machines There was an enquiry on one of the netnews about CSound for the PC. Over the weekend I have built it for a 386/MSDOS, together with various of the additional programs. If anyone is interested please mail me and I will send it. If there is a great deal of interest then perhaps it could be made available from anonymous FTP. I cannot see any reason why it could not be built for a 286 as well, or is that a vanishingly small interest? On the same topic, a student here has recently ported CSound to the Acorn Archimedes, and given it a graphical interface for creations of orchestra files, and a link to the Maestro format for score files. Again if there is any interest I can make it available. The student has written a passingly good manual, but copying that may be a little harder. ==John ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Jun 1992 12:34:53 GMT From: J P Fitch Subject: Re: csound for smaller machines I had a number of enquiries, and so I have managed to negotiate an anonymous ftp system. So, the executables and a README are available from ftp.bath.ac.uk (which I think is 138.38.32.1) in the directory ~ftp/pub/jpff This is the 386 system and at present I have not put the sources there. The files are pure .exe images -- but that may change if I can understand the "correct" format. I will see about building the 286 system some time soon. Some of you asked particular questions, and i will try to answer them one by one. If you cannot reach this site, or have other problems, let me know and I will try mailing or what ever. ==John ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Jun 1992 14:05:21 GMT From: MICHAEL B DAVIS Subject: Re: csound for smaller machines In article <1992Jun8.114328.5164@gdt.bath.ac.uk> masjpf@gdt.bath.ac.uk (J P Fitch) writes: >There was an enquiry on one of the netnews about CSound for the PC. >Over the weekend I have built it for a 386/MSDOS, together with >various of the additional programs.
