THE TRUTH !! some hard facts on WaveTables I did some research on my MicroWave to answer all those WaveTable questions: A WaveTable consists of up to 61 different Waves (00..60) plus tri, sqr and saw. There are (000..245) Rom-Waves, (246..306) internal UserWaves and (307..367) Card Waves. A Wave consists of 64 Bytes (8-Bit), thats the positive cycle. The Wave(Control)Tables are (00..27) Rom-Tables, (28..31) arithmetically generated, (32..43) internal User Ram-Tables and (44..55) Card-Ram Tables. In the WaveTable you select the Waves, that should sound. There are 61 free positions, which you might fill with Waves, but you must only specify valid Waves for pos 0 and 60. For the others you assign -1. So the MicroWave interpolates in between. Example: POS 0 1 2 3 .. 20 21 22 .. 59 60 61 62 63 WAV 256 -1 -1 -1 -1 257 -1 -1 258 -1 -1 -1 I took an oscillograph and looked at the way the uW plays and interpolates the Waves. For simplicity lets assume a Wave has 8 Nibbles (4-Bit), a WaveTable has 4 free positions plus tri, sqr and saw. For the second half it reverses the readout direction and sends the difference between the maximum value and the actual number. The resolution is 8 Bit. Period. No hidden 9th bit. Now lets investigate the spectral interpolation. After some digging in the old Keyboard reviews I realized that it does something new samplers do not, it has a full set of analog synth envelopes, LFOs, and resonant filters right there on the front and 8 audio outs. Its sample rate (poor by present standards) was a "secret". So if you like to do audio "collage" with vox, and sequence poetry say, and you are on a budget like that $700, with no sampler, is this beast worth lugging (60 lbs +) back? Any users, ex-users out there? I am not much on presets of any description, so sample playback setups are out. Sorry about the used VeebleTronix JXM-108 Metlay, but this is an area I know little about and I like to be real selective, rather than turning over gear till I find what I like. He seems to be having problems turning off MIDI channels, or at least silencing them when he wants to. He only needs the first 10 channels of the SCC-1 and the other 6 are picked up by his K1. How can you silence channels 11-16 of the SCC-1. There must be a sysex message he can send. One wasteful but quick-fix suggestion I told him was to create a patch with a volume of 0 and assign it to the channels. There are 17 possible values. 16 of them select MIDI channels; the seventeenth silences the part. I use this sysex when playing "Brass 1" : I combine two parts together, except that the second one is one octave higher (another sysex). The combination is very decent and surely greater than the parts! I found it when adapting the French demo file of Cubase to the SC-55. It was used for every supported synthesizer. I wondered why did their brass sound better than mine, whereas we used the same patch.
