I"ll be in Los Angeles from July 10-29 on a grant to observe digital post-production audio processes. I'm looking to housesit or a place to stay somewhat cheaply for myself, my wife (soon-to-be) and our 12 year old. Does anyone know anybody who would consider this, or is there an organization I can contact. I'm a electroacoustic music professor at Ithaca College, so I'm somewhat respectful, at least in title. Anyone help, contact me here or Rothbart@Ithaca.bitnet or call me at school, 607-274-3171. Thanks. I though I would suggest giving SoundWare a call (800-333-4554) and requesting a copy of their current catalog. It lists lots of software, with paragraph descriptions of each. Just fyi. ... rick ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jun 1992 17:33:42 -0700 From: Tom Erbe Subject: SoundHack .60 available I have just finished a new version of SoundHack, a program I am writing to provide spectral sound processing on the MacII. Subject: TNR - new releases The Noisy Room - NEW RELEASES *** To all independent music lovers *** KEYWORDS: Totentanz, Mutually Assured Destruction, Men Of Lake, mail order, import music. INTRODUCTION The Noisy Room, my independent label based in Italy is happy to introduce to you all some new and very interesting releases that you may want to add to your collection! A brief description follows, along with the instructions about how to order. 1) TOTENTANZ - "On Beyond Music" Code: TNRC199290A C-90 Cassette TOTENTANZ were a band active in the Lansing, MI, area in the early 80s. The music is quite Tangerine Dream oriented, and was correctly defined as "the perfect wedding music... for the Bride of Frankenstein" by the Lansing newspaper. The alternative definition of "chamber music... torture chamber" given by Wolf (John McIntyre), founding member of the band, also fits quite well. The tape, which contains 90 very dense minutes of music, features TOTENTANZ in "Revelations", "Meditations of the Monk", "March of the Myrmidons" and the long suite "Alchemy", conceived for and performed at an art gallery. The band performs in two different formations: as a trio (The Reverend, Wolf and Jim Pechur) on "Revelations", and as a duo (The Reverend and Wolf) in the rest of the tape, which is partially in concert and part at Lucubrium Studio - but always in real time and without overdubs. The Noisy Room is proud to bring this music to you, since we firmly believe it is very creative and really catching. As we wrote in our newsletter (those of you who subscribe should have received it or, possibly, be about to receive it), this is black music - but not in the Motown sense: black is the colour of the visions it can give you... Original cover and recording on C-90 high bias tape (Dolby B), for the very first time on The Noisy Room. 2) MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION - "Ambient Genocide" TNRC199290C C-90 Cassette MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION are the obvious extension of TOTENTANZ into the 90s. The ensemble features Wolf (John McIntyre) and Rick Tumanis, and works in the wake of TOTENTANZ's music. Comparatively, M.A.D. are even denser than TOTENTANZ, and their studio tape "Ambient Genocide" is the best proof. Three long cuts, namely "The Forever War", "And Much Of Madness...", "...And More Of Sin" will catch your attention and drive you across a very cloudy post-war scenario. We think that one of the best description of this music's attitude is contained in a request that once was made to Rick Tumanis by Idle Hands' (the band where Wolf and Rick formerly played together) drummer, during a session: "could you please turn the war down?"... which should warn you about the calm placidity of his music! This tape is available in a limited promotional offer together with TOTENTANZ's. See instructions to order for details. Same support and characteristics as TOTENTANZ's tape. 3) MEN OF LAKE - "Riva" MUSEA FGBG 4047.AR CD This old-fashioned progressive music is available on CD from TNR courtesy of MEN OF LAKE. This Italian band plays a very tasty and '70-oriented progressive rock, where shades of King Crimson, Moody Blues and Orme (an Italian band of the 70s) are clear but nevertheless not overwhelming. Good lyrics (in English) and very powerful arrangements, where the organ always supports the sophisticated harmonies and often steps in the foreground. This band reached a glorious 4th place in the most respectable independent Italian ranks in 1991, and we are very happy that they come from our area so that we are able to make their products available to you. A special mention for the luxurious CD production by MUSEA, one of the most interesting and dedicated labels (based in France) of the new progressive music. MEN OF LAKE, a band you shouldn't miss at all. -------- HOW TO ORDER... Since this list is not a place fit for commercial proposals, all you should do is send an e-mail message to Marco (addresses: BITNET: OLIVOTTO@ITNCISCA, Internet: olivotto@itnvax.cineca.it). I will send you an order form through private e-mail, with all details about how to order and, of course, the prices, which are very low too! Don't procrastinate - send your request today!!! TO BE OVER... ...in September, the MOST awaited project of TNR: "The Chessboard" on CD. For those who care, we finished the mixdown last Friday... so we're almost ready. After the holidays, anyway! Also, for that time, we should be able to offer you some more music, like "Flow", by _Urban Ambience_, one of the most interesting works reviewed in the last TNR newsletter. So, stay tuned! All our best to all of you! Ciao, Marco ------------------------------ End of the EMUSIC-L Digest ******************************
