Same, here... they're *really* nice little speakers. I think, though, that if I were doing it again, knowing what I know now, I'd probably spring for the PBM8's, just for the extra bass. I'm considering adding a subwoofer to alleviate that particular shortcoming, though. Anyone have recommendations for a subwoofer that'd "go well" with the PBM6.5's? -Patrick pgr@vtvm1.cc.vt.edu ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1992 18:48:03 MDT From: Adam Schabtach Subject: Re: Studio Monitors > > Anyone have recommendations for a subwoofer that'd "go well" with the > PBM6.5's? Tannoy sells a powered sub that's designed to "go well" with the PBM6.5s and PBM8s. No, I don't know how much it costs, but I remember it being not extraordinarly expensive, considering it has an amp inside it. --Adam schabtac@stout.atd.ucar.edu ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Jun 1992 06:25:30 GMT From: smill@POLARI.COM Subject: Re: Studio Monitors In article <9205311558.AA21028@stout.atd.ucar.EDU> schabtac@STOUT.ATD.UCAR.EDU (Adam Schabtach) writes: >> he gets the impression that Tannoy's are way over rated. > >I'll second Mike's opinion on this. After using the system-12 DMT's for over a year in a wide variety of recording sessions in a professional studio, I must say that they are not the most accurate speakers. In comparison to a number of other monitirs, including JBL 4430, Westlake BBSM-10, and others they are bass heavy and too glossy. They have the dangerous trait of making almost any program material sound smooth and polished. They do not reveal such defects as phase anomolies and location problems very well. If you want a monitor that always fletters you, they are great. But if you want to hear what is really on tape, they can be very misleading. -- Steven M.
